MCCOOK WON DISTRICT CONTEST
Miss Gertrude Morrlssey Took First
Prize In a Field of Ten With a
United Judges Decision
Miss Gertrude MorrisBey won the
prize at the declamatory contest in
Alma last Friday evening She used
the same selection used successfully in
the home contest and won by a unani
mous decision of the judges which
makes the victory the more satisfactory
and sweet
This victory places McCook in the
list of state contestants and with a
champion who will certainly give a good
account of herself at the state meet to
be held in early May
Thore were eleven contestants at
Alma ten of them in the dramatic class
with Miss Morrissey which is an addi
tional feather in Miss Gertrudes cap
The only representative in the orat
orical class came from our neighbor Cul
bertson and they secured the gold med
al and will also have a representative
in the state meet
The McCook contingent returned
from Alma more than elated over their
success in the contest and highly
pleased with the effort made by Miss
Morrissey whose offering of How the
Larue Stakes Were Lost is descrihed
bb having been very effective and touch
ing
The meeting bad the largest paid en
rollment in years 456
McCook was strongly represented
the entire Red Willow county delegation
numbered 45
