A freight car in an extra west this
morning caught fire at this station but
the flames were extinguished before
any damage was done The car was

arrived in the city Monday night on a
visit to her parents Mr and Mrs Sam
Spencer Miss Nellie met her at Holdrege
I N Biggs departed Monday night
on No 14 for Aransas Pass Texas
where he expects to spend some time
looking after some property interests
and the situation generally He has
been granted a vacation of some length
The Higbline people have been trying
to secure service on the line Sundays
but General Holdrege declines to grant
the request on the grounds that the
business will not justify it that it is
not the custom of the company to give
Sunday service on branches and that
the employes should have rest on that
day

The Date for this Initial Glad Time Has Been Fixed at
Saturday July 10th 1909
CAMBRIDGE THE PLACE SELECTED FOR PICNIC
The Appended Programme Will Indicate to You at Least Some Idea of the
Fun in Store for the Railroad Men and Those
Who Desire to Attend
The railroad men in all departments at this place will participate
in a picnic on the grounds at Cambridge Saturday July 10th This
will be the initial event of this kind but it is hoped that it will not
be the last of its kind but that it may become an annual occurrence
Each department is vieing with the other to make this picnic one
of genuine pleasure for everybody

It must be distinctly understood that all who desire to enter any
of the above contests must register in book for that purpose at
Dreberts clothing store on or before July 9th or on grounds on date
of picnic before 100 p m at which time book will be closed No
applications will be received after that time One exception to the
above rule will be the tug of war
CHECK YOUR BASKETS
Be it understood that dinner and supper will be provided by
basket lunches provided by all that go to picnic who can supply
same All baskets will be cared for by refreshment committee
who have provided checkmen in baggage car on the picnic train
Be sure to go to train fifteen or twenty minutes before the train
leaves so that you can get your basket properly checked and get
your check therefor You can then get your basket on presentation
of your checks It is suggested that all mark their dishes and
baskets with private mark as an additional precaution
As other arrangements are completed they will be announced
