the Schramm wreck of a few weeks ago
A freight train that left Hastings
Monday morning at 7 oclock got into
McCook Wednesday afternoon at 420
without a hot box so the voracious ac
count runs
A J VanCamp who resigned his po
sition in the local telegraph office some
time ago is working in the relay office
at Lincoln Roswell Cutler succeeded
him here

The switch engine and two road en
gines got mixed up in the yard at
Brush rear end of last week and the
trio are the worse for the encounter and
shopped for repairs
J O McArthur successor to Keating
as head of the boilermakers will have
his family move here from Horton
Kansas as soon as he is able to secure
board and room in some private family
if possible
Engine 2910 and 145 are in for an
overhauling No 372 is about ready to
go out of the backshop Engine 1459
the Denver switch engine is down on
her wheels and will shortly go back into
the yard service
Brakeman W B Craven sustained a
painful injury at Culbertson Tuesday
He slipped on a sugar beet and his arm
fell between the bumpers His elbow
and arm were quite badly pinched An
engine and car went up from here and
brought him down for medical attention
He was with Conductor W T Wilcott
No 3 ran into a small bunch of freight
cars in the west end of the Oxford
yard last Saturday night Her engine
was disabled and the box cars were
scattered over the main line blocking
the same for several hours and delaying
No 3 to that extent The cars had
been pushed out onto the main line to
let a freight train in the clear and they
were forgotten with the above result
A pair of suspenders will be promptly
cut for that oversight
Machine Shop Foreman F C Fuller
has been transferred from McCook to
Sheridan Wyo where he gets a similar
position He left for Sheridan Wednes
day on No 13 to assume his new posi
tion with the company The family will
follow as soon as a home can be secured
for their reception Mr Fuller has
made a popular and efficient foreman
for the company here and it is with
real regret only that the boys see him
leave McCook John DYoung succeeds
him as machine shop foreman at this
place He is a young man of experience
and ability in that position and will
doubtless give the company and em
ployes satisfactory service Heres well
wishes for the outgoing and success to
his successor
The shopmen held a little farewell re
ception in the master mechanics office
Tuesday evening in honor of F C
Fuller the departing machine shop
foreman which was full of pleasant
memories to Mr Fuller The boys
through their spokesman Ed Howell
head of the blacksmith force presented
Mr Fuller with a valuable cut glass
water set and umbrella as an earnest
of their esteem It was a touching
incident in the farewell of the late fore
man one he will carry with him to his
new home in Sheridan where he be
comes general foreman of the Sheridan
shops a position he is qualified in
every particular to fill with credit to
himself and satisfaotionto the company
and employes

Dismissed and Rearrested
The case of tho company against W
H Armstrong for alleged larceny came
up in Justice Berrys court last Friday
afternoon but dismissed without prose
cution Shortly afterwards a warrant
was gotten out by the company charg
ing him with burglarizing a freight car
at Mascot but up to this date it has not
been possible to serve the warrant his
whereabouts being unknown
B F Metz who pleaded guilty to a
charge of petit larceny Thursday of
last week was on the following day re
arrested charged with burglarizing a
car at Eckley Colo and was taken by
Sheriff Peterson to Wray Colo that
night and lodged in jail there Ho
offered no objections and went without
extradition papers
Detective Malono of Lincoln who has
had these cases and others in charge
alleges that the company has been for a
long time subject to numerous cases of
petit larceny from its cars the articles
taken embracing shoes tobacco whis
key carpets and rugs clothing and
other articles too numerous to men
tion as the sale bills state it

Manager Heber has instructions from
the general western superintendent of
the Western Union telegraph company at
Chicago to make to his office such re
commendations as to wire and apparatus
and equipment improvements this office
may require This is an encouraging
omen to the manager especially in view
of the many recent improvements made
and the fact that this is already one of
the most up-to-date offices in Nebraska
