Burlington Freight Depot Burns
Between 10 and 11 oclock Tuesday
night the Burlington freight depot at
this place was practically destroyed by
fire together with the freight therein
and the old records stored in the attic
All the records of value in the agents
office were removed to a place of safety
The loss on the building is about 1000
The loss in freight is placed at about
2000 The fire was well advanced be
fore discovery and all the city fire
partment and the companys fire de
partment could hope to do was to con
fine the flames to the freight house and
the accomplishing of such salvage as
was possible The building was dry and
the freight and stored records in tho
attic made a stubborn and hot fire to
control The work of the departments
on the whole was satisfactory and effec
tive The fire drill in effect in the
agents office was responsible for tho
quick and thorough work in removing
the valuable and most essential records
of his important office
The origin of the fire is unknown pre
sumably the work of a passing engine
As the old building was too small for
tho demands of the growing business of
this station the company will doubtless
replace this one with a larger more
modern and up-to-date equipped freight
depot
