accidentally shot himself through one of
his toes first of the week A son was

about evens up the misfortune of the

Engineer and Mrs W H Dungan
left on Tuesday evening for Nashville
Tenn to attend the great meeting of
American Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers to be held in that delightful
southern city and to see more of the
south during their visit of a few weeks
No 13 was about an hour late Thurs
day being delayed a mile west of Rep
ublican by the front wheels of the front
trucks of the tank getting off the track
There was no considerable damage
save the cutting of ties for several telegraph-pole
lengths It was however
a narrow and lucky escape for the train
which stood for going into the ditch
Conductor and Mrs George Willetts
Jr departed on Monday night for
fornia to be absent several weeks on a
visit They had intended attending the
great shriners meeting in San Francisco
but the earthquake and fire changed the
meeting to Chicago But as their plans
were completed for a western coast trip
they decided to make the California visit
anyhow t

A little runaway occurred between Mr
Robinsons house and Mr Burbridges
house Saturday evening A livery
team had taken three of the lady teach
ers over to McCook to attend the teach
ers association and they had returned
home and all of the teachers but one
Miss Morris had gotten out of the
buggy and gone home one of the bolts
came out of a single tree and frightened
the horses They started to run but
were stopped before very much damage
was done or any one was injured
-This locality was visited by a very
disasFrous cyclone Monday evening
about 430 oclock It began this side
of Cedar Bluffs and destroyed a school
house and crossed the creek at Mr
Weyeneths tore down his barn anda
part of his house It destroyed George
Lewis house and seriously injured two
of the children all of the family were
injured in some way Bill Andruss
house Wm Kendalls barn were both
blown away Then north of the Beaver
it changed its course and started north
erist It destroyed all of the buildings
on Elvin Woods place all of the build
ings on Mr Saunders place were made
into kindling wood The barn on Mr E
M Woods place was destroyed Rex
Miles windmill blown down Every
thing at Harry Butlers and John Leis
tiresbut their houses Ambrose Rubys
house was picked up and carried about
10 feet The Drake place where Clar
ence Axtell lived every thing was blown
into kindling wood A barn
and windmill blown down Every thing
at Mr Reeds is destroyed Jess
Smiths barn and orchard is all gone
Laffertys windmill is destroyed The
inmates of most of the above hou3es es
caped by going into their storm caves
The people that had their buildings
destroyed have the sympathy of the re
mainder of the community although
very much property was destroyed it was
very fortunate that more people were
not hurt than were
