TWENTY FOURTH YEAR
he
Library Board Had a Session
The Carnegio library board had a ses
sion Monday evening at which time
two matters were discussed at some
length Firstly what shall bo the style
of architecture Secondly what shall
bo the policy of the board in expending
the 810000 donation Somo favored
putting the entire amount in the build
ing and providing for furniture in other
sources Others favor making all ex
penditures out of the donation unless
some of i McCooks people of means
come -in and make liberal donations
covering this item There seems to bo
a strong sentiment in the city to this
end that the donations from Carnegie
and others the money in sight and
hand when the contract is let shall
cover all expenditures and that there
shall be no dedicatory collection or debt
of any kind The sentiment has many
adherents that the 1000 annually paid
by the taxpayers of the city is all that
should be required by the library board
of the people The Tribune believes
that thiB amount is a liberal expenditure
by the people of this city for this one
item of muncipal expense and that un
less some of our monied people step into
the breach with liberal cash donations
in hand the 10000 should be tho limit
of expenditure at this time on public
Srarv
Jhis ground seems to be more tenable
when it is considered that sewer bonds
and public school bonds are contemp
lated this year and that other public
and private expenditures will be un
usually heavy this season and that it
is but common prudence to husband re
sources at a time when the demands are
so numerous and pressing

Ball and Banquet a Great Success
The eleventh annual ball and banquet
of C W Brouson lodge No 487 Broth
erhood of Railroad Trainmen in the
opera house last evening drew a crowd--ed
house and scored for the boys a great
success socially and financially Per
haps the only drawback to the occasion
was tho largeness of the gay and happy
company present
The hall was quite elaborately and
prettily and appropriately decorated for
the occasion Green white red and
blue tho order colors were every where
in tasteful evidence Then was a wealth
of vari colored streamers Old Glory
and trainmens flagslanterns arc lights
etc all displayed to attractive advant
age
The music by tho popular K of P
orchestra was up to tho high traditions
of that organization tuneful and inspir
ing
The banquet was spread at the Palmer
house and a splendid menu was served
the guests in a style well known by those
carterers to the public
In fine every effort made by the train
men for the numerous guests of the
evening was highly successful and they
are to be congratulated upon the net re
suits all around

Discuss the Sewer Proposition
The members of the McCook Commer
cial cltlb held a mid night session Tues
day evqning in the club rooms discuss
ing and explaining the sewer proposition
Many questions were asked and an
swered and much light thrown upon
this little understood and much-misunderstood
question
C II Meeker was present and made
clear as far as possible the matter ex
plaining the organization of sever dis
tricts and the scope of the plans and
profiles and specifications drawn up by
him and accepted by the city council
together with certain items of expense
Arrangements were made for special
work in the line of publicity to the end
that the people of McCook shall become
informed and be able to vote intelligent
ly on next Tuesday February 27th up
on the proposition to vote bonds for a
main sewer in this city
In order that the people may have a
fuller opportunity to hoar and discuss
the matter it was determined to have a
public meeting in the Menard opera
house this evening when the people of
the city are invited to appear and be
come wise on the topic now attracting
the attention of the taxyapers The
Tribune hopes every taxpayer will take
a night off and be present
The people are entitled to a full clear
accurate complete and unequivocal ex
planation of this matter The Tribune
hopes they will receive it tonight
