million dollars and the fifty years given a train robber The recent decision of the Nebraska supremo court makes the holding of the usual fall elections imperative The syllabusof the opinion is to the effect that the constitution specifics the length of term of the constitutional offices and because the new law affects the offices mentioned in the constitution to be of certain tenure the court cannot uphold any art of the law The Tribune has an idea that the people of McCook would be pleased to know something about what it costs to run the schools of the city and if the proper officer will let us into the infor mation we will be pleased to let the people know The Tribune believes in greater publicity touching all public matters and especially when the money of the people is involved and we will take pleasure at all times in giving the news when it is obtainable The Tri bune believes further that it would be a good idea if more citizens of McCook -would attend the council and school board meetings Boh of them by law are public The people ought to know more about their own affairs They should insist upon knowing it Publi city is one of the commonwealths great est safeguards Fresh Beeson Evangelist y Junior Normal School Items The ball game last Friday between Trenton and McCook drew a large crowd of interested teachers from the normal The new enrollments on Monday in cluded Ethel Sharp and Ada Besack of Strattonand Hannah Stangland of Mc Cook Instructor Harry F Hooper returned Sundav nicrht from his weeks trip to the big Woodman gathering at Mil waukee On Tuesday morning at chap el he gave an interesting account of the many things he saw and heard Prof OConnell informs us that it begins to look as though he would not hold a teachers institute in this county this year owing to the fact that all the teachers are preparing to attend the Junior Normal at McCook a part of the tfme at least Trenton Register The Friday morning music program last week drew an interested audience Miss Edna Barr very acceptably render ed a piano solo Miss Elsie Campbell sweetly sang a ballad entitled Would If I Could but I Cant and MrMiller gave The Bandolero responding with The Stein Song for an encore and for a second number sang A Dream In addition there were two choruses by the school Interest in agriculture has reached a fevered heat Mr Barrs class instruc tion is enthusiastic but in addition he is doing work of a practical nature The members of the class under his direc tion have started a garden north of the school house where some thirty varie ties of flower and vegetable seeds have been planted There will be daily at tention and inspection and results will be eagerly watched for The object is to further the movement for the im provement and beautifying of school grounds Keen and general regret pervaded nor mal circles this week when it became known that Frank R Roberson would not be able to keep his appointment here Thursday night and no less was this true in the community where he is a general favorite Upon his return from Russia last week Mr Roberson found his wife critically ill and after consultations of physicians it was an nounced that they could offer no hope for her recovery This made his trip west out of the question Particularly sad does the extreme probability of Mrs Robersons death become when it is known that they have been married but two years and that Mr Roberson lost his father by death only last December Between father and son existed an un usually strong bond of comradeship Mr Robersons date will be filled very prob ably by himself later before the close of the junior normal but in any event by a worthy substitute Velona Allen Rachel Berry Jennie Brady Helen Burns Bertha Carty Gertrude Colvin Bridget Doyle
