Strongly Endorsed J H Bennett At the regular session of McCook lodge No 61 A O U W held on Mon day evening the lodge which is deeply interested in the candidacy of J H Ben nett one of its most active members passed the following resolutions of en dorsement Whereas Our esteemed brother Mr J H Bennett has served on the Grand lodge finance committee for a short time by appointment and able of filling the position with honor and Whereas Brother Bennett is a very conservative businessman and capable of fiilling the position with honor and Whereas Wethe members of McCook lodge No 61 A O U W believe he is entitled to an election to said position therefore be it Resolved That McCook lodge No 61 instruct our delegates to use all honorable means to tho end that Brother J H Bennett may be elected a member of the finance committee at the coming session of tho Grand lodge A O U W to be held in South- Omaha commencing May 9th 1905 W A Middleton J E Kelley Maurice Griffin Committee The OldNoren Dwelling Burned Thursday night about eleven oclock the old G A Noren residence at corner of Madison and Dodge streets was prac tically destroyed by fire When discov ered the entire roof was afire and when the fire department arrived on tho scene there was little to be hoped for but to con fine the flames to the burning building and to save the contents which was done The dwelling was occupied by Chester L Walker foreman of the Burlingtons paint gang His goods were for the most part removed from the burning building and his loss will be confined to breakage and damage in moving The house was owned by C BSawyer and was valued at 1200 There is 900 insurance on same The loss is practically a total one as tho salvage will not much more than clear the prop erty of debris The theory of the origin of the fire that appears to be most tenable is spon taneous combustion Regular Club Committees At the meeting of the McCook Com mercial club last Friday evening Pres ident Barnett announced the and Contents Destroyed The dwelling house at tho corner of McDowell and Dudley streets formerly owned by Charles McCurdy but now the property of Frank Castle of Norca tur Kansas was destroyed by firoabout two oclock Thursday morning together with all its contents Mrs E M Blair was occupying tho houso at tho time and upon her falls the entire loss of al her household effects Mrs Blair is out of the city having gone up to Stev ens in Frontier county close of last week The houso was valued at S1000 but we are unable to ascertain whother or not same is insured Tho loss on household goods will reach 81000 and there is the same question of doubt as to insurance A piano was burned to gether with a house well furnished in every respect indeed this los3 may be quite as large as upon tho houso The neighbors were awakened by the reflection of tho light from tho burning building and an alarm was sent in By the time the department arrived on the scene they were delayed by lack of sufficient members to haul tho cart through the mud tho building was past hope of saving And in addition the water pressure is said to havo been weak not sufficient to throw a stream over the one story house The fire was probably of incendiary origin and there is ground for suspicion that robbery was connected with the fire but as both owner of the house and renter are absent from the city it is not easy to get the facts in tho case Later The local agent informs us that the household goods were insured in the Royal of London for 81000 Grand Easter Exhibit We are holding our first grand cooking in the wagon Some goods in the wagon were destroyed or damaged Some movements immed iately after the fire started exceeded schedule time or the loss would have been complete as to wagon and
