v ri r i I f - TWENTY THIRD YEAR imtrFW Given a Leave of Absence Superintendent A Campboll of the McCook division of the Burlington has been given a leuve of absence of indef inite length because of ill health and V O English of Aurora has been made acting superintendent at McCook As sistant Superintendent Harris of the Donvor office will take Mr Englishs present position at Aurora while the Denver office will be abolished The formal order making thoso changes made public yesterday reads as fol lows Lincoln Neb Oct 8 1901 M r V O English is appointed acting super intendent of the McCook divisions vice Mr A Campbell who has been given loave of absence on account of ill health Mr F Harris is appointed assistant superintendent of the Lincoln division with headquarters at Aurora vice Mr V O English promoted The office of assistant superintendent at Denver has been discontinued The above changes to take effect October 10 1904 II E Byram General Superintendent Approved G W Holdregh Gen oral Manager Mr Campbell has been ailing for sev eral months He took a short vacation several months ago in the hope that his troubles would quickly disappear but in this he was disappointed lie is one of the old time officials of the road having been with tho B M lines in one ca pacity or another since the early days in this state when the system began to ex pand It is said of him that ho has more friends and fewer enemies than any superintendent His strong point is in track building and maintenance and in this he excelled He is a good operating department man and his record as a superintendent is high Those w h o know him dislike to hear of his forced retirement at this time on account of ill health For many years Mr Campbell has been noted for his rugged robust physical appearance and for his strength Mr English is an old time employe of of the road coming up from tho oper ating department to his present position He has long been Superintendent Big nells assistant at Aurora Abolishing the office at Denver it is believed is merely -in line with the re trenchment policy being followed wher ever possible The division of the work of genoral superintendent of lines west of the river makes it possible for this one office to be abolished Lincoln Journal Increased Sugar Beet Shipments It is estimated by competent persons that the shipments of beets from this section this year will exceed the total shipments of last season by at least thirty per cent Already the Standard people have shipped about 280 cars of 22 tons each or G1G0 tons Up to date the shipments from Culbertson station alone have exceeded the total shipments from the entire branch last season Yesterday there were thirty cars of beets in the McCook yard being shipments from Palisade and points this way Of these 30 cars 22 belonged to tho Stand ard the remaining 8 cars going to the American people at Grand Island The Standard shipments go to Ames Ne braska Old Folks Service At the pre paratory east which has been nicely fitted up for the purpose and makes a very comfortable room Miss Daigh was for four years a principal of a ward school in Shawnee Oklahoma The city teachers will begin their read ings for the winter term on next Monday evening at the home of Supt Thomas In addition to the regular county read ings they will take up special work in that line and will cultivate social fea tures with music programs etc The meetings will be held at tho homes of the several teachers Pleasure will thus be mixed with the profitable literary labors The county teachers reading circle will take up tho work of the year Octo ber 15th tomorrow Tho regular meet ings thereafter will be held on the second Saturdays of each month The study and discussion of Sabins Common Sense Didactics will be the special work of the circle this year The circle has been divided into six districts The sup erintendents or principals of the schools will be tho managers of the respective districts which are as follows McCook Indianola Bartley Danbury Lebanon and one other in tho southwestern part of the countv Six meetings will be held during the year in addition to the two sessions of the regular county teach ers association which will be held in Bartley and Danbury thisyear Tomor rows circle meeting will be held in Mc Cook opening at two oclock in the afternoon in the high McCook postmaster on last Saturday for rural free delivery mail carriers on the proposed new routes out of Indianola and Bartley both being north of those points These routes will probably be established and ready for service on November 1st They will in crease the number of rural free delivery routes in Red Willow countv to four The frame buildings in rear of The Citizens Bank have been torn down by Mr Franklin and in due time a brick will occupy the space It is Mr Frank lins purpose to dig the cellar and area way and lay the foundation at once commencing next week on the work A
