Oyster The place of convocation was the residence of Mrs Louis Suess and stockings and handkerchiefs were the articles involved in the shower The meeting was in the nature of a farewell to Miss Edith who on 13 Wednesday departed for her future home in San Francisco California The gathering anticipated another event of which the scene will be California and Miss Edith and Rufus Carlton the high week or so with a serious complicated bowel liver and kidney trouble He is better at this writing and slowly improving George D Leach has moved to Bloonifield Nebraska where he is now engaged in the hardware business be ing associated with J B Gossard late of Herman Nebraska Heres success to them J H Ludwick has been very sick for the past week He is now better and left this morning for Lincoln on a short visit to his sister Mrs Hilen Trowbridge and later contemplates going south for his health J G Stokes departed last Saturday for St Louis where he is running a rooming house Mrs Stokes will leave tomorrow to join her husband in the latest worlds fair city May their por tion be success W H Cooper a former resident of this part of the county arrived from Red Bud Kansas where he has been living the past few years and will make his home in McCook this winter to af ford his children our excellent school facilities intending to farm here again next year He still retains his real estate JHcCodh Michael Coyle Burled on Monday Michael Coyle whose death was brief ly referred in last weeks issue was buried in Calvary cemetery on Monday morning from tho residonce of Maurice GrifQn where services were held by Rev J J Loughrau of the St Patricks Catholic church at ten oclock Michael Coyle was born in Nebraska City this state December 24th 1861 died in McCook Nebraska October 15th 1903 at half past seven oclock p mfrom injuries received some time since by being kicked by a horse Deceased was sent to a city hospital for treatment but all efforts for his good and recovery proving fruitless he was brought home last week and passed away in a few days after his arrival The members of the family all have sincere sympathy in this sad death CARD OF THANKS Wo feel deeply grateful for all the kindnesses shown and assistance so willingly and promptly rendered during tho illness and after the death of our dear one and take this means of express ing toall our thanks and appreciation for passenger carrying They are built along the lines of Pullman con struction with floors made of angle iron girders and steel frame bracing They are heavy weighing as much as the average Pullmans fifty three and one half tons They are seventy six feet in length nnd are carried on a double truck such as is used under ordinary coaches They are vestibuled after the Pullman idea and are finished in the regulation Burlington pattern They have seats for eighty passengers are well lighted and are comfortable riding The con struction is of the best It is cheaper to operate such cars because of accountof two sore fingers While working the ash pan on the engine drawing 147 Saturday at Funk the pan slipped and caught two of his fingers with tho result that part of each finger was cut off The Baldwin works will turn out this year nearly 2000 locomotives compared with 1533 in 1902 1375 in 1901 1217 in 1900 and 901 in 1899 The company is building locomotives for roads in Brazil and Japan and is also turning out a good lot for Cuba both of standard size and for plantation work Burlington officials in Kansas City were advised that F A Delano general manager of the Chicago Burlington Quincy railroad had been promoted to second vice president of tho system to succeed Howard Elliott who was re cently elected president of the Northern Pacific railway company C M Levey general manager of the Burlington lines in Missouri will succeed Mr Delano As second vice president Mr Delano will have control of the operation of the entire Burlington lines including 8000 and 9000 thousand miles of track Mr Levey will change his headquarters from St Louis to Chicago Filed Suit to Test Ramsey Law The first move in the proposed test of the Ramsey bill was made in the supreme court Wednesday evening at 5 oclock when Ed PSmith of the firm of Smyth Smith filed an application in behalf of C W McComb of Wilson ville for a writ of mandamus compelling the Bur lington railroad to furnish him grain cars without discrimination at his sta tion McComb is an independent grain buyer at Wilsonville and alleges that tho railroad company favors the regular buyer at that point Judge Sullivan has granted a temporary writreturnable November 4 requiring the company to supply him cars to ship his grain The argument and ruling on the writ it is expected will establish the validity of the Ramsey bill Lincoln
