An Opportunity For McCook
Arrangements ire now being made for
the union nornuil institute which proved
so successful and satisfactory last year
in different piris of Nebraska especially
the one held in Culbertson embracing
eight counties of the 29th senatorial dis
trict
That McCook should be the place for
holding this institute is acknowledged
by all and the question is now up to its
citizens whether or not they will be public-spirited
enough in the matter of
affording eniertaiument for tho teachers
Last ear the location was decided in
favor of Culbertson on the mounds of
lower rates for boaid and the people of
McCook should rise equal to the occa
sion this year and see to it that this
tho only objection shall bo removed
As to situation facilities of every sort
McCook is preeminently the place where
the institute should bo located and if
the people will agiee to give reasonable
wo might say low rates we have no
doubt the docision will be in McCooks
favor
Between two hundred and three hun
dred teachers will attend tho institute
which will bo held from six to ten weeks
be remembered that the
splendid lecture talent and other attrac
tions of the instituto will afford much
entertainment and instruction of a high
quality for the citizens as well as for the
teachers
It seems to The Tribune that the citi
zens and businessmen of McCook cannot
afford and will nutlet this opportunity
slip It is too attractive from every
point of view educationally socially
commercially Give Supt Thomas and
his assistance next week your heartiest
and most liberal cooperation
Baptist Roll Call
Last Wednesday evening tho mem
bers and friends of the Baptist church
gathered for their annual supper and
roll call Tho church was beautifully
decorated with largo palms and potted
plants rugs bunting etc Tables were
spread the full length of the church and
still tho room was insufficient
The past year has been one of great
prosperity Over a hundred members
have been received during the year 1902
and seventy of them by baptism This
is a larger number than was received by
any Baptist church in the whole state of
Nebraska in 1899 1900 or 1901 and but
one other church in Nebraska has
equalled that number of baptisms in
1902
The above does not indicate simply an
addition of so many names to the church
roll but also a spiritual growth The
church has a large active force of earn
est Christian workers The church has
never before known as good a year fi
nancially The vear closes with all debts
paid and a considerable balance in the
treasury
Rev C W Brinsted of Omaha gave a
stirring address at tho close of the even

A Painful Simple Fracture
Miss Nettie Endsley had the misfor
tune Wednesday evening of last week
coming home from her school northwest
of the city for Thanksgiving on her
bicycle to fall from the wheel and sus
tain a simple fracture of her right leg
Tho accident occurred about a half mile
from the farm of Matt Droll but Miss
Nettie mounted her wheel and made her
way home by peddling with the uninjur
ed foot It is a pleasure to note that
she is progressing nicely toward a quick
and complete recovery which should re
ward such fortitude
A Splendid Art Exhibit
The writer had the pleasure of a short
visit to tho art exhibit now displayed in
the court house The 150 pictures are
superb copies of work of great masters
paintings which have drawn the admir
ation and praise of the world and for the
small price of five and ten cents no citi
zen of McCook should fail to visit tho
exhibit There is a world of education
and cultivation in seeing such a collec
tion and The Tribune urges all to take
advantago of the opportunity Tomor
row will be the last day of the exhibition
