o b MB t it 8 6r i A A TWENTIETH YEAR Death Claimed Her Last Friday Death came rather unexpectedly to Mrs Austin W Duteher of Driftwood precinct last Friday afternoon about two oclock The deceased had been suffer ing with typhoid fever but early part of last week seemed to be better and hopes were had of her recovery Mid week however other complications arose paralysis set in and death ensued on Friday afternoon without tho stricken woman recovering in any measure from the initial stroke Services were held at the homo on Sunday forenoon by Rev L M Grigsby of the Methodist church after which tho remains were brought to McCook where interment was made in Riverview cemetery about two oclock in the after noon Services at the home were num erously attended by neighbors and friends and a number followed tho re mains to tho city and the cemetery at testing the high esteem in which the deceased was held in that neighborhood Mrs Spragup and son Bert mother and brother of tho deceased arrived from Wymore Saturday on No 13 to attend tho funeral returning home on Jo 14 Sunday night on account of the illness of Mr Sprague Tho husband and three young sons remain to mourn tho death of a dear and devoted wife and mother They have deepest sympathy in their great sorrow Clara E Sprague was born Decem ber 7th 18G7 in Nebraska City this state died near McCook Nebraska March 7th 1902 Was united in mar riage with Austin W Duteher Decem ber 25th 1889 became a member of the Congregational church June 1886 Perfected An Organization The baseball people got together Monday night in tho city hall respon sive to call and perfected an organization to push forward the baseball interests of the city the coming season Dr V V Gage was called to preside and Lon Cone to tho secretaryship A board of managers was chosen as follows George li Berrv chairman J H Bennett P Walsh F A Pennell treasurer Will T Pate D W Colson was made secretary The managers were at once burdened with the business of securing enough games to fill the season It is expected to play four games each week during the season It is hoped to form a circuit of about six towns including Arapahoe Minden Kearney Superior Grand Island perhaps with the home team McCook has already guaranteed 81000 and more will be raised for the purpose by subscription and in sale of season tickets The managers will be around on Mon day next to collect the guarantee fund It may be stated in this connection that the guarantee fund will be returned to the subscribers in case the project fails The indications now are that the project will be carried through to a success and just as soon as the other towns can be organized in tho proposed circuit definite plans will be made Increase Their Capital Stock Last Saturday the Barnett Lumber Co North Hitchcock county of consumption ap peared in last weeks Tribune is from tho pen of Presiding holder iiardaway of Holdrege Elizabeth Fulton Welling was born in Cold Water Michigan December 25 1835 When her mother died she was adopted by her cousin Mrs Hannah Ireland who took her to New York City to live In a mission chapel in lower New York where both were teachers she met Walter H Giles then a student at Union Theological Seminary This acquaintance resulted in marriage August 17 1864 The joung couple soon sailed for the Orient and located in Caesarea Capadocia us missionaries of the American board Their son Walter N was born in the mission field March 19 I860 and the husband died in Con stantinople May 21 1867 while attend ing the annual meeting of tho mission aries Mrs Giles continued there in mission work for eleven years among the Armenian women using however the Turkish language In 1876 Mrs Giles returned to New York to take care of her foster mother Mrs Ireland then to Andover Mass to put her son in Phillips Academy then to Hitchcock county Nebraska where she died March 5th Mention should be made of her beau tiful life As she was born on Christ mas day her life was devoted to Christ She was an active member of the Pres byterian church in New York and of the Methodist Episcopal church here in Nebraska Her devotion was not in word only but in deed going to the length of leaving her native land and carrying the good news to those who were in need Such lives reinforce our faith in men She sought not to receive but to give Her heroic spirit will be a blessing
