Reporter grows yearly more distasteful
and unsuccessful
Just make up your mind to vote the
Republican ticket streight this Novem
ber state and county You will be re
lieved of any possibility of making an
error
The Schley investigation has revealed
many petty bits of ignoble human
nature with little else that is compen
sating All in all its a discreditable
exhibition of envy and spitefulness
Johann Mosts seditious article pub
lished coincidejitally with the assassina
tion of President McKinley drew him
one year in the penitentiary He may
congratulate himself on getting off so
lightly
In view of the numerous warm experi
ences of the past year hade3 has no
terrors for the average resident of Beaver
City Indeed it has a reminiscent
smack aboutit quite charm
ingly cool to some of them
The official ballot this year will be
much smaller than last year It will be
9x24 inches Under the new law there
will be one fourth less tickets printed
which will be a corresponding saving to
the county Beaver City Tribune
Americas most industrious
and provident people are the Swedes
That countrys balance in the exchange
of money orders with the United States
the past year is 41000000 kroners much
of which it is fair to assume has gone
over to the old country to assist other
Swedes to come to America
The indications are dear that the
state will have another siege of smallpox
to combat this winter s The disease has
made its appearance in Omaha Xincolu
Hastings and a number of other points
in various sections of the state and in
severer form than last winter It is
clearly the duty of the state and muni
cipal governments to be wideawake
about this matter and to use every pos
sible preventive of its spread
The most competent estimates of the
worlds wheat crop place the total slight
ly in excess of the previous two years
There is little if any prospect however
that this will have any substantial effect
upon prices as the shortage in other
foodstuffs particularly corn will more
than take up this slight excess The
American farmer is assured of a market
at good prices for all his wheat and
Nebraska will come in for more than its
usual share Bee
The Beaver City Tribune lost a sub
scriber last week and the only reason
the editor can give for the catastrophe is
the fact the editor on a recent occasion
nearly broke his back carrying water to
save from burning a building owned by
said subscriber in a late fire in Beaver
City How the subscriber must have
hated that misguided editor However
as the editor still retains 1149 subscrib
ers on his list he has decided to continue
the publication of his paper
Mb O Tj Thompson the Republican
candidate for treasurer is so well and
favorably known throughout the county
that he needs no introductien to our
readers During his two years occu
pancy of the office Mr Thompson has
conducted the affairs of his office in a
business like manner and by his courte
ous treatment toward all who have trans
acted business with him he has made
scores of warm personal friends in every
precinct of the county who will see that
he is reelected by an overwhelming
majority Bartley Inter Ocean

Henry L Gdold Withdraws
The withdrawal from the Republican
state ticket of Henry 3J Goold nominee
for regent is a credit to the gentlemans
judgment and party patriotism reliev
ing the party of any and all embarrass
ment and placing himself before the
people in the proper light Under the
circumstances placing him on the state
ticket was an error
In connection with his withdrawal
Mr Goold makes a statement which
contradicts in important points state
ments made by Ex State Treasurer
Bartley and which place the former in a
much more favorable light before the
people He admits the receipt of the
money by a bank of which he was presi
dent claiming that it was not a per
sonal loan Notwithstanding Bartley
says he never received a cent of the
1000 back Goold says h e holds
Bartleys receipt for 500 Further
Goold states that of the nearly 50000
liabilities of the failed bank in which he
and wife were the largest depositors at
the time of the failure and two fifths
owners of all the stock he has alone
paid off all but about 2500 exclusive
of his and his wifes claims and that all
depositors will eventually be paid in full
In conclusion Goold says At no
stage of my dealings with Bartley have I
ever been conscious of a dishonorable or
dishonest act
Mr Goold makes no explanation of
the voting of his home county delegation
in the late state convention to forthwith
return Bartley to the penitentiary
Hastings city council has decided to
compel every person in that city who
has not been vaccinated in the last three
years to be properly and effectually vac
cinated
The Arapahoe Mirror C E Reed
editor just couldnt stand it any longer
ana has come over to tne Republican
party body soul and breeches
has doubtless squared that
delegation account with Goold

Burlington la Oct 16 Special
Telegram -Articles of incorporation of
the Chicago Burlington Quincy Rail
way company were filed in tho county
auditors office in this city this after
noon Tho capital stock of the new
company is 100000000 and its object
as set forth in the articles of incorpora
tion is to acquire the Burlington system
and other roads and to maintain a rail
road in tho state of Illinois Iowa Mis
souri Kansas Nebraska Colorado Wy
oming South Dakota Montana Wis
consin and Minnesota
The corporation began Oct 15 1901
and will continue for fifty years with
the principal place of business at Burl
ington Iowa
The understanding is that the new
corporation is merely the first step to
put matters in shape for the transfer of
the property to the
syndicate According to the rumors
that are floating about here this corpor
ation will take charge of the Chicago
Burlington Quincy Railroad company
and the many lines leased and controlled
by the company and then transfer them
altogether to the Morgan-Hill-Harriman
syndicate
This new corporation is legally entirely
separated from the Chicago Burlington
Quincy Railroad company The old
company is corporated under the laws of
the stale of Illinois while the new one is
controlled by the laws of the state of
Iowa There is but one change in the
name of tho company The old is a rail
road company the new is a railway
company
The corporators J C Peasley J M
Dering J D Connell W W Baldwin
and E M Shelton met in Chicago
Tuesdao and formed the articles of in
corporation but nothing was given out
about the matter until this afternoon at
3 oclock when the papers were filed in
the office of tho county recorder The
same papers will be filed tomorrow in
office of tho secretary of state at Des
Moines
The first meeting of the incorporators
of the Chicago Burlington Quincy
Railway company will be held in Burl
ington The new incorporators will
probably meet on Saturday and elect
officers and steps contemplated for tak
ing control of the Chicage Burlington
Quincy railroad by the new company
may be discussed
