places where such liquors are sold will be considered sufficient cause for dismis sal from the service Nebraska State Fair For thirty two years past good crops or poor crops the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture true to its duty has an nually presented to the public at its fairs the products resources and possi bilities of this wonderful young state the flower of the New West a region of country known until a few years ago comparatively as a barren waste These products have been found on actual ex amination without superiors anywhere both as to quality and yields This year corn and vegetables have been bartly scorched in some parts of the state it is true And yet in many other parts they are good Small grain never was better The Fair management- is going right along with the fair as usual this year Sept 2 to 6 Have greatly improved the old fair grounds adjoining Lincoln lately purchased by the state A new woven wire fence has been placed around the whole grounds all the old buildings have been repaired painted and put in the best condition Nineteen new large and commodious barns for live stock have been constructed Water from city water works in all parts of the grounds Railroads both passenger and freight run into the grounds Reduced railroad passenger rates from all stations in the state The secretary announces that the outlook for exhibits was never better Let the people all attend this great fair and with their families spend a few days of recreation profitably and pleasantly Will Have Some Corn The Tribune has growing evidence by word of mouth and by sample of product that considerable corn will yet be harvested in Red Willow county Since the late splendid showers it has not been uncommon to hear farmers express the belief that they would have some corn One of the samples recently left at this office is from the C H Meeker farm at Driftwood bridge This farm is being worked by C F Woker He planted but three or four acres of Squaw corn and believes he will gather between 50 and 60 bushels per acre therefrom The samples left at this office are very long and when the kernels become plump and the ears are well filled out the probabilities are that Mr Wokers ex pectations will be realized T A Endsley of Red Willow precinct says he would not take a thousand bush els for his corn prospects at this time Snow and Rainfall The records at Burlington headquar ters here show the following snow and rainfall from January 1 to August 1 1901 January 2 inches and a trace of snow February 4 inches and a trace of snow March 16 inches and a trace of snow April 260 inches of rain May 13 of an inch and two traces of rain June 427 inches of rain July 42 of an inch of rain In totals there have been 22 inches of snowfall and 742 inches of rainfall in the seven months of this year It will be observed that almost all of the snow fell in March and that more than half of the rainfall fell in three days in June and was accompanied by destructive hail It is a marvel that anything has been produced under such unfavorable circumstances slight precipitation and poor distribution combined Auction The entire general stock of The Dia
