Hrower , a shooting match will take place on the James Doyle ranch , Friday , November 23d. Hert Mann and family , late arrivals from Coffey county , Kansas , are now temporarily domiciled in the Matt Stewart house. There seems to be no improvement in the condition of Mrs. A. W. Campbell , and her many friends entertain little hope of her ulti mate recovery. Quite a number collected at the Hex Elder Methodist church with the expectation of listening to a sermon but the reverend gen tleman did not put in his appearance. There was Sunday-school and preaching at the school-house , last Sunday. Fay Jacobs says "bicycles won't tell"but ma U not so accommodating ; Lincoln Fitch agrees with her. Clementine Ploussard , who has been work ing at Randalls , for some time past , returned home , last Sunday evening. Reports from Lincoln state that I1 rank Fitch is now base-diummer for the State university band ; also plays violin in the man dolin club. Roy S.Jacobs , who has been doing consid erable courting of late , returned to Lincoln , Tuesday evening on No. 6 , to return to his studies at the State university. The trial of L. R. Fitch and Roy S. Jacobs on last Monday , recalls the following in re gard to the annual school-meeting : "After voting a nine-month's school and levying a sufficient tax to carry on the same , the meet ing adjourned to find that a side-show had been arranged by some of the friends of the defeated candidate , in which young Fitch and young Jacobs were to break Whittaker to ride double. Result : A tangle from which Jacobs came out feet first , minus watch and shirt ; Fitch was somewhat bruised about the face , and neck , that seemed to have been caused by Jacobs having mistaken the horse he was rid ing ; while Whittaker was out a pair of glasses , and a shirt front , and the next day discovered that somebody had struck him. The continuation of this side show took place before the county court on July 2,1900 , at which time young Jacobs was dragged up by the sheriff on a charge of as sault and battery.and the county judge , before hearing the evidence.advisecl the boys to plead guilty and pay a small fine and large costsfor ( furnishing the free side-show exhibition to an unappreciative audience. ) The boys were fi nancially bankrupt and consequently were bound over for district court , a Sioo.oo mort gage each being placed on their carcasses ; W. S. Fitch being security for their appearance. Their trial came off , last Monday. A jury of American citizens decided that the boys were not guilty for the following reasons : They were too young to tackle a kicking , bucking mule. They were raised in a city , so could not have been good broncho busters. The old sorrel horse seemed to be well broken , both single and double. The performance was free , all the spectators being satisfied , having received the full value of their money. The boys were dismissed with many warnings and friendly admonitions from the court.
