Engineer G. A. Koren is running out
of Red Cloud , this week.
A. P. Ely is now a member of the day
force under George Foster.
M. Lawritson's children are sick and
quarantined with diphtheria.

kitchen to his residence property.
J. E. Robison entertained his father
from Curtis , fore part of the week.
Jack Cook and family of Republican
City are making relatives here a visit.

Oscar Yarger , agent at Axtell , spent

Brakeman Neal Beeler is on the Hast-
ings-Oberlin run now vice L.W. Wright ,

Machinist and Mrs. James Ritchie re
turned , Saturday night , from a short
visit in Denver.
M. D. Frost returned for work , first of
the week. He has been at home in Bart-
ley on the sick-list.
Engineer George Pronger is having an
addition Duilt on to the rear of his North
Madison street residence.
Supt. Campbell and his private car 96
went over the Cheyenne branch , Tuesday
and Wednesday , on a trip ' of inspection.
C. T. Watson arrived from Lafayette ,
Indiana , last Friday evening , to assume
his old duties as manager for the Western
Union.
Brakeman E. Dyer is on the Hastings-
Oberlin line in place of Brakeman O. D.
Keith , who recently lost a finger and
thumb while making a coupling.
Brakeman Steve Dwyer was in Bea
trice , Monday and Tuesday , visiting his
brother John , the Burlington's commer
cial agent , who is in very poor health.
No. 5 continues to be late , " caused by
-the high water in the Missouri , and es
pecially at Kansas City , where traffic is
being carried on under great difficulties.
Auditor E. O. Brandt of Omaha and
Supply Agent D. S. Guild of Plattsmouth
were at Western division headquarters ,
Wednesday , on business of their respect
ive offices.
Brakeman E. M. Cox of the Republi-
can-St. Francis line had the misfortune
to crush one of his feet quite badly .Tues
day , at Wilsonville , by having a trunk
fall onto the member.
Turnfest , North American Gymnastic
Union , St. Louis , May 6 to 9,1S97. For
the above occasion round trip tickets will
be sold to St. Louis at one fare , final

Chief Dispatcher J. F. Forbes was in
Lincoln , Tuesday , figuring with the of-
cials on some changes to be made in
the time card on the Western division.
Some changes will also be made on the
Southern division , but it is not expected
to issue a new time card for the entire
system.
Supt J. R. Phelan of the Northern
division came down from Alliance , last
Thursday night ; going on to Ives , Colo-1
rado , where he has a ranch , on business , '
and returning here on Friday night. He
visited relatives and friends here until
Monday morning , when he left for home
on No. 2. We have the memory of a
pleasant call from him.

Municipal Matters.
- Old council met in regular session
April 12th. All present but Councilman

Claims of fire department were laid
over until next meeting.
Votes cast in the late city election
were officially canvassed , and the result
declared as found in Tribune's report
of two weeks ago. Old board then ad
journed.
The new council then came to order.
All present.
Bond of citj' clerk approved.
The new officers were duly sworn into
office.
Report of chief of police was read and
ordered filed.
Applications of J. H. Bennett and W.
M. Lewis for licenses to run billiard
halls were granted.
The mayor appointed Ed. D. Jordan
chief of police for ensuing year.
Adjourned to meet April 19th.
Council met in adjourned session April
19th All present.
Bonds of chief of police , police judge
and city treasurer were approved.
Petition of Mesdames Colfer and Mul
len for permit to build brick sidewalks
was granted.
Petitions of L. W. McConnell and A.
McMillen for druggists' permits were
granted and their bonds approved. Per
mits ordered issued.
Applications of Joseph Sch warzPatrick
Walsh and Allen Clyde for saloon
licenses were granted , bonds approved
and licenses ordered issued.
Bids for street sprinkling were received
and the offer of W. J. Porter for $45 a
month was accepted. C. G. Coglizer
wanted $50 a month for six months and
$60 a mouth for six months to do the
same.
Board then adjourned.
