Trainmaster Kenyon made a business
trip to Akron , Monday , returning the
next day.
Mrs. C. E. Pope and children returned ,
Sunday night , after visiting relatives in
Lincoln for a week.
John Mullen , who has not been work
ing for some time , went to Hastings ,
Wednesday morning.
John Custer and family returnedSatur-
" day night , from their week's visit with
relatives at Blue Springs.
Owing to ill health , Brakeman .Robey
expects to quit work here soon , and will
then leave for North Carolina.
Stephen Belles returned to work in the
shops , Tuesday morning , after a ten
days' lay-off with a smashed hand.

W. D. Beyrer and family left , Wednes
day evening on 4 , for a month's visit with
relatives and friends in Illinois , Indiana
and Michigan.
A stock extra went through here , Wed
nesday evening , containing Mexican cat
tle. About fifty of them had died be
tween Denver and this place.
Engine 250 , which has been in the
shops here for repairs , was sent back to
Denver , Tuesdayand engine 2i6brought
down and placed in the shops.
A goodly number of the conductors
expect to attend the biennial convention
of the Order of Railway Conductors ,
which will be held in Los Angeles , Cali
fornia , May nth.
Switchman C. V. Kerr having returned
to MeCook , Yardmaster Frank Clary
has again taken charge of the Akron
yards. His house up there was consid
erably damaged by the recent wind and
snow storm.
The engine going west bursted a flue
at Beardsley , Tuesday , consequently the
train did not go down until Wednesday
afternoon. A. C. Campbell's car was at
tached to the train and he experienced
all the delights of a ride on the Sunflow

Roadmasters Rogers and Hagberg were
piloted out in the country by Tom Clark
Tuesday , in quest of the festive duck.
They bagged about a dozen ducks , but
the greatest catch was when Ralph sank
into about three feet of quicksand in the
river south of Bartley and had to be
pulled out. Cambridge Kaleidoscope.
James Egan , tin smith , had the mis
fortune to hurt himself , quite severely ,
last week. He was screwing up a pipe
on one of the engines when the alligator
wrench , which he was using , slipped ,
catching his thumb between it and the
fire-box , inflicting a severe bruise. He
was obliged to lay off for a few days.
General John C. Cowin , special counsel
for the United States government in the
foreclosure suits of the government
against the Union Pacific railway , says
he sees no obstacle in the way of fore
closure , and thinks that the event will
come along as quickly as the necessary
legal papers can be issued by the courts.
He believes that the foreclosure decree
will undoubtedly be issued in May.

Florence and Master Rodburn spent Sat

Mrs. D. Magner , who has been visiting
relatives at Ravenna for the past ten days ,
is reported to be quite sick at that place
and unable to return home.
Frank Harris and Emerson Hanson
went down to York , Monday evening on
4 , to attend a meeting of the Home
Forum. They stopped at Lincoln on
their way back and transacted some bus
iness , returning home , Tuesday night
on 3.
Senator Cbandler of New Hampshire ,
who is the determined opponent of rail
road pools and trusts , introduced in Con
gress , Monday , a bill in the nature of an
amendment to Senator Foraker's rail
road pooling bill. It is entitled , "A
bill abolishing competition in trade and
production and authorizing combinations
to enable merchants , manufacturers and
producers of commodities subject to in
terstate commerce to maintain prices and
make profits notwithstanding business
depression" .

The new wall map issued bv the Bur
lington Route is tbree feet four inches
wide b3T four feet long ; is printed in six
colors ; is mounted on rollers ; shows every
state , count- , important town and rail
road in the Union , and forms a very de
sirable and useful adjunct to any house
hold or business establishment.
Purchased in lots of 5,000 the maps
cost the Burlington Route nearly 20 cents
apiece , but on receipt of 15 cents in coiner
or stamps the undersigned will be pleased
