Conductor A. P. Bonnet is visiting in

field , guest of her brother , Fred.
Stephen Dwyer was the guest of his
brother John , this week , in Beatrice.
Engineer Chas. Chabo is down from
Gillette , Wyoming , on a visit to friends
at Imperial.
Engineer Pat Timblin has the i6o , just
out of the shops. The 212 goes to Have-
lock for repairs.
Bob Love arrived in the city , Thursday -
day of last week , and expects to go into
the company's employ.
The Misses Phelan are visiting H. E.
Marvin's sister , Mrs. Pearce , at St. Al-
bans , Vermont.-Alliance Grip.
Engineer J. R. Sircoloumb was down
from Sheridan , Wyoming , fore part of
the week , on a short business trip.
The Havelock shops have an order for
lour new class K engines. It will take
about four months to complete them.
Mrs. Oscar Yarger of Akron , Colorado ,
spent the early portion of the week in
the city , guest of J. H. Yarger , on her
vay home from a visit to her parents at
Red Cloud.
It is rumored that "Pap" Willis , the
Red Cloud round house foreman , will
take the engine on the Imperial run and
that Engineer Chambers will go onto
the main line.
Mrs. F. E. Kennedy and children , who
have been visiting her mother , Mrs.
Mary Mullen , have returned to Sheridan ,
.Wyoming. Mr. Kennedy met them in
Lincoln. He had been visiting his people -
ple in Omaha.
Engineer B. F. Sharkey had a cylinder
head blow out of his engine , Monday
morning between Axtell and Minden.
He took No. 2 into Hastings , however.
Engineer G. R. Johnson went down and
brought up No 3.
Arthur Jackson of Lincoln has been
given a place as accountantin the supply
department at the local Burlington
shops. Mr. Jackson's transfer will probably -
ably cause a generalswitching around of
the clerical force , but nothing definite
has yet been announced.-Havelock cor.

W. L. Brown , the young operator here ,
had a narrow escape from serious injury
and perhaps death , last Friday morning.
While getting off the morning passenger -
ger train he slipped and fell on the rail
beneath the moving train. By an extra
effort lie drew himselfout ofharm'sway ,
.but by-standers say that the wheels of
the coach missed him by only an inch.
This is just about as close as these things
get without more serious results and he
is fortunate to be alive at this writing.

To California in a Tourist Sleeper.
The Burlington Route personally conducted -

terday in the city guest of his sister

Conductor Aaron King was in the city ,
this week , visiting oldtime friends at
Western division headquarters.
C. W. Lindsay'an old Oxford boy , is
among the new subscribers to this
journal. Clarence is now located at
Melrose , Wis. , where he is employed in
the railway service as special conductor.

A Lutheran Organ.
The Lutheran Herald is the nanie of
a church publication which will be issued -
sued in Lincoln about April 1o , and every -
ery alternate Thursday thereafter. Rev.
C. A. Gearhardt , D. D. , is to be the edi-
tor. There are four general bodies in
the Lutheran church in Anierica , but the
Herald will be independent of all divi-
sious and will advocate a closer union of
all Lutherans. There aae 415 Lutheran -
eran diuretics in Nebraska , and as no
paper of this kind is published west of
Saint Louis the Herald will have a large
field. The first issue will be in the form
of a twelve page folio with a straw colored -
ored coverbearinga picture ofMartin Lu-
ther.-Lincoln Journal.

Notice to Teachers.
I will hold special examinations in
McCook , Danbury and Bartley , at stated
times , which will be published in the
different papers of the county.
No examinations will be given , during
the institute , this year.
Teachers , wishing to secure a certificate -
cate , must take the examination as
stated above.
A fee of one dollar will be charged for
the examination.
Teachers , passing the required examination -
ination , will be granted a certificate ,
without further charges , during the institute -
stitute , which will be held in McCook.

Their Anniversary Occasion.
On Monday afternoon , Mr. and Mrs.
John Randel , with the aid of about two
score neighbors and friends , celebrated
the fifteenth anniversary of their wedded -
ded life. A splendid dinner was served
and the occasion was indeed a happy
one.
