1 The Republican electors of the state of Nebraska -
braska are requested to send delegates from
their several counties to meet in convention in
the city of Lincoln , Wednesday , October 2 , at
2 o'clock , p. m. , for the purpose of placing in
nomination one candidate for judge of the supreme -
preme court and two members of the board of
regents of the state university , and to transact
such other business as may come properly
before the convention.
The several counties are entitled to representation -
sentation as follows , the apportionment being
based on the vote cast for the 1-Ion. Joseph S.
Bartley for state treasurer , giving each county
one delegate at large and one for each lee

The Republican electors of the Fourteenth
Judicial district of the state of Nebraska are
hereby requested to elect and send delegates
from their respective counties to meet in convention -
vention in the city of McCook on Wednesday ,
September ISdi,1895 , at one o'clock , p. m. , for
the purpose of placing in nomination a candidate -
date for Jude of the District court of the
Fourteenth judicial district , and to transact
such other business as may properly come before -
fore the convention.
The basis of representation will be one delegate -
egate for each one hundred votes or major
fraction thereof cast at the general election of
159.4 for Hon. T. J. Majors for governor , and
allowing one delegate at large for each county.
The counties will then have delegates in the

Notwithstanding that the report has been
circulated that I have withdrawn from the
race for county treasurer , I am still in it and
will be , as my announcement reads. If I am
defeated in the convention I will abide by . it ,
but as to reports being circulated of my withdrawal -
drawal , they are false and misleading.

Hay making is in vogue now.
Bessie Endsley is . attending
school in McCook.
Clara Pickering is attending
school in Indianola.
Mr. Hume marketed some hay
in McCook , last Friday.
There was a large attendance at
Sunday school , Sunday.
Ada Burns commenced teaching
out near the Driftwood , Monday.
Laura Pickering commenced her
school in Fowler district , Monday.
Rev. Crago of Indianola delivered -
ered an able address at this place ,
Sunday at 3 p. m.
Mrs. Kilgore of McCook was out
looking after her real estate , last
week.

Mr. Kerns and Ernest Carter of
Indianola attended services here ,
Sunday.
Mr. Dodd and Miss Wright and
Rev. and Mrs. Morris of Laurel
Dell attended services , Sunday.
A pleasant party of young people -
ple consisting of the Misses Rose
and Ada Burns , Bessie and Nettie
Endsley ; Mary Dudek , Nellie Kel-
log , and Messrs. Ernest , John and
James Carter , Ira and Frank Neel ,
Al. and George Kellog , Bert Du-
dek and Mr. Miller , spent last Friday -
day evening at Mr. Pickering's.
Various games and music were the
amusements. A happy occasion
is reported.
RED WILLOW.
S. L. Miller put up the hay on
the Clark farm.
Mrs. John Longnecker has been
suffering again from the old trou-
ble-neuralgia of the stomach.
Mr. Knox , an old friend from
the old home of JamesWoodworth ,
together with his family , made the
Woodworth family a brief visit ,
one day last week.
The schools began at the Willow
and in district 72 on Monday , Mrs.
Eliza G. Nettleton teaching at the
Willow and N nude Cordeal in the
south part of district 72.
Ida and Mary Canaga last week
departed for their new fields of
labor. Each of the girls have secured -
cured long term schools , and their
old neighbors wish them success.
The watermelon thief is abroad
in the land , and the old saying ,
that there is honor among thieves ,
is disproved. Vines are stacked ,
melons plugged and destroyed
boys get the old time thrashings ,
and the old , , foolish fathers wind
up matters by recounting their own
exploits in watermelon patches
during the period when they were
sowing their wild oats. We need
not blame the boys if they rob
widows and orphans.

W. R. Starr was also a McCook
visitor , Tuesday.
Marion Powell had business in
McCook , Tuesday.

Miss Nellie Holland was in Mc-
Cook , Tuesday , in the capacity of
stenographer in the court martial
case. Also , Judge E. S. Hill , who
was a member of the' court martial.
D. J. Fitzgerald , Thomas Duncan -
can , L. W. Smith and T. F. Wel-
born went up to McCook , Wednesday -
day evening , to assist Judge Rit-
tenhouse in holding the free silver
judicial convention. And they
did it like mice.

PROSPECT PARK.
Mary Marsh visited with Mrs.
J. H. Wade , Saturday.
School began in district 48 , last
Monday , with Anna Hill , teacher.
Road Overseer C. S. Ferris is
doing some good work on the roads
this week.
Charlie Boatman went over in
the Fowler neighborhood , Saturday -
day , to participate in the base ball
game.
Mr. Burns was over from Ash
creek , Sunday. He brought his
daughter over to her school in the
Cain district.
One night recently Mrs. R. M.
Wadewhile , down in the cellar , was
startled by a sound of rattling on
the steps from which she had just
walked. It proved to be a rattlesnake -
snake , and as it was quite dark ,
she was kept in the cellar about
half an hour , until her husband
came and gave his snakeship his
quietus.
There was a Sunday school picnic -
nic held in Hammell's grove on
Brush creek , last Friday. It was
participated in by the following
schools : Pleasant Ridge United
Brethren Sunday school , Henry L.
Goodenberger , supt. , James Phillips -
lips , sec. Fairview Methodist Sunday -
day school , William Nixon. supt. ,
A. H. Tirrill. sec. Prospect Park
Methodist Sunday school , R. M.
Wade , supt. , Mattie Shears , sec.
Union Valley Sunday school , A.C.
Marsh , supt. , J. S. Brittain , sec.
After prayer by Rev. Mason , the
picnickers proceeded to devour a
bountiful dinner. After dinner
there were addresses made by the
several superintendents , and very
interesting programs were rendered -
ed by the different schools. The
exercises closed with a few well
chosen remarks by Rev. J.E.Tirrill.
A short time was spent in friendly
chat , after which all returned to
their homes , feeling that they had
spent a very pleasant day.
