IT is unfortunate for a man to
get into politics , and if we had a
real good friend that we loved as
a brother , we would advise'him to
keep out of it entirely. It is
like sticky fly paper. It is a little
tempting and when you fall into it
it tastes a little sweet at first , but
you tug and pull and wear your
life away trying to get out of it.
We know men now who are down
flat in the sticky stuff , both wings
fast and their legs all stuck tight
trying to pull themselves out of
the sticky mess. The very best
advice you can give any man is to
keep out of politics.-York Times.
POLITICS as well as political
leaders are a necessity and the
public is interested in keeping
them both up to as high a standard -
ard as possible. The misfortune
is that many misunderstand
the qualifications of a politician.
It requires the same characteris-
'tics to succeed as in other spheres.
-It is not chicanery or trickery that
makes a good politician. On the
contrary , honor and straightforwardness -
wardness are eminently necessary.
So are courage and faithfulness ,
Nor are bottonholing and talking
to people iii stage whispers and
doing things covertly the way to
win. The truly successful politician -
cian is a bold man whose
word is as good as his bond , who
talks straight out and always has
a side. The people like a man
whom they know where to find.
He must have friends and be true
to them. Nothing so tries a manly
exhibition of gratitude-returning
their favors with interest-stand-
ing by them when it involves
sacrifice as readily as when it involves -
volves nothing. The candidate ,
who goes about beggarlike , with
outstretched hand always asking
alms , and yet who for fear of losing , ,
friends , will never help , anybody ,
is surely doomed.-Beaver City
