The Republican electors of the state of Nebraska -
braska are requested to send delegates from
their several counties to meet in , convention in
the city of Lincoln , Wednesday , October 2 , at
2 o'clock , p. m. , for the purpose of placing in
nomination one candidate for judge of the supreme -
preme court and two members of the board of
regents of the state university , and to transact
such other business as may come properly
before the convention.
The several counties are entitled to representation -
sentation as follows , the apportionment being
based on the vote cast for the Hon. Joseph S.
Bartley for state treasurer , giving each county
one.delegate at large and one for each lee

Republican Judicial Convention.
The Republican electors of the Fourteenth
judicial district of the state of Nebraska are
hereby requested to elect and send delegates
from their respective counties to meet in convention -
vention in the city of McCook on Wednesday ,
September isth,1895 , at one o'clock , p. m. , for
y the purpose of placing in nomination a candidate -
date for Jude of the District court of the
Fourteenth Judicial district , and to transact
such other business as may properly come before -
fore the convention.
The basis of representation will be one delegate -
egate for each one hundred votes or major
fraction thereof cast at the general election of
1894 for Hon. T. J. Majors for governor , and
allowing one delegate at large for each county.
The counties will then have delegates in the
convention as follows :

The Republican electors of Red Willow
' j county are hereby requested to elect and send
r delegates from their respective voting precincts -
cincts to meet in convention in the city of Mc-
Cook on Saturday , the x 4th day of September ,
1895 , at II o'clocka. m , forte purpose of
electing eleven delegates to the Republican
State convention to be held in the city of Lincoln -
coln on the 2d day of October , 189J ; also , to
elect eleven delegates to the Republican Judicial -
cial convention to be held in the city of Mc-
Cook on the 18th day of September , 1895 , and
to place in nomination candidates for the following -
lowing offices :

One County Surveyor.
One Superintendent of Public Instruction.
One Clerk of the District Court.

And to transact such other business as may

one delegate for each fifteen votes , or fraction
thereof , cast for J. S. Bartley for state treasurer
at the general election in I894. The several

into that branch of business with
their customary impudence and
abandon. The department store
is another blighting evidence of
the curse of modern centralization.
IF the democrats go outside of
Ohio and take up a western candidate -
date , next year , Morton , the present -
ent secretary of agriculture , will
be the focus of all eyes before the
convention adjourns. He has shown
remarkable executive ability and
strength of character ; and the very
economical administration of his
department , from which he turned
back into the treasury many thousands -
ands of dollars , is very big feathers
in his cap. Morton of Nebraska'
will need as much watching as
Morton of New York when convention -

J. W. Dolan and J. J. Lamborn
were in McCook , Monday , doing a
little political missionary work.
J. A. Brinton was down from the
metropolis , Monday , to transact
some business at the county seat.
The institute has continued this
week with good interest , large attendance -
tendance , and profitable sessions.
James Harris and Howe Smith
peeped under the canvas at the
Democratic county convention of
Monday of this week.
With a new Masonic block looming -
ing up , a saloon in the near future
and another meat market on tap ,
Indianola is right in the push.
Representative Lamborn was up
from Wilcox , first of the week.
He went in to Lincoln , Wednesday -
day , on some business.
County Judge Beck spent Friday -
day afternoon last in McCook on
county fair business with President -
dent Fitch of the society.
Marion Powell , wife and family
and Miss Bessie Pew were visitors
of the county's commercial metropolis -
tropolis , Monday , driving up and
back.

Keys of Bartley has been granted
an original pension-and original
pensions , these times , are almost
curiosities , you know.
M. E. Piper and wife were in
this part of the county , last week.
She visiting in Bartley and he

his candidacy for county clerk.
The county teachers' association
met on Wednesday afternoon. The
new officers are : Edna T. Meserve ,
president ; M. J.Waltersvice president -
ident ; Minnie Whittaker , secretary -
ry ; Flora Rankin , treasurer. Bart-
ley will be the place of holding the
nextlmeeting , which will b held
on the Saturday in November nearest -
est the full moon. At the meeting
of the Library association held after -
ter the same , George W. Bede was
chosen president , J. H. Bayston ,
secretary , treasurer and librarian.
Last Saturday , after F.H.Hotlg-
kin of Bartley had threshed about
600 bushels of oats for J.W.Bush ,
near that place , a fire started suddenly -
denly in the straw near the sepa-
rator. There was a strong wind
blowing at the time and they were
unable to extinguish the flames ,
which consumed the separator , the
threshed straw and a stack of oats
near by containing about 600 bushels -
els of oats. It is thought that the
fire originated from a spark from
the engine. The loss is quite
heavy upon both Hodgkin and
Bush.

of wheat from his 20-acre patch.
Several have been cutting buffalo -

Agent Cann went to his old
home in Canada , last week , on a
visit of a week or two. His son
who is an operator at Oxfork is
running the station during the
father's absence. .
This city seems to be suffering
from an epidemic of typhoid fever.
There are a half dozen or more
cases now under the care of the
doctors. This matter. merits at-
tention. The cause should be ferreted -
reted out if possible.

Florence Moore is visiting a few
days at Headley , this week.
Crops are said to be better here
than in any other part of. the
county.
A Mrs. Keep from eastern Nebraska -
braska is visiting at W. C. Mc-
Taggart's.
Levi Kimpton is out from Cambridge -
bridge helping his father stack
their small grain.
Four teachers from this vicinity
who attended the institute at In-
dianola report having a gqod insti-
tute.

Are Now Ready.
The premium lists for the fall meeting
of the Red Willow County Agricultural
Society are now ready for distribution.

Last night's storm was promising for
rain. But its fulfillment was but wind
and dust ; not enough rain falling here
to settle the dust. And rain is badly
needed.
The Episcopal social , last evening ,
was a pleasant and well patronized affair -
fair , though the wind storm interfered
with the closing minutes of the occasion.
MISSES PEARL AND ALICE SMITH of
Red Cloud have been visiting their sister -
ter , Mrs. W. D. Burnett of our city , for
past week.
MESSRS. GEORGE HOC&NELL and
Charles Meeker left , last night , for New
Mexico , on mining business.
The Red Willow counts V. P. S. C. E.
convention will be held at Red Willow
on next Sunday.
Engineer Robert McElhenney left ,
this morning , for Philadelphia , on a
protracted visit.
The Christian Endeavorers are preparing -
paring for a picnic on the Willow , next
Thursday.
The Golden Gate K. E. special went
east through here , late last night.
Mrs. Robert Love is in the city on a
visit , guest of Mrs. F. D. Burgess.
Michael O'Learyhad business in In-
dianola , Monday.
Indianola has decided to have a saloon.
