RED WILLOW.
Mrs. Longnecker is quite ill , the
same complaint as last winter ,
neuralgia of the stomach. Miss
Katie is so much better that she
is able to be out again.
The wind storm of a weak ago
did much damage to Jacob Long-
necker's and Willis Meyer's wheat ,
blowing some of it out of the
ground and burying some of it so
deep that it will never appear
again ,
Mrs. Mulford and mother came
near having a serious accident
while driving from their place to
Mr , Slye's. Some of the harness
became undone and the buggy ran
forward onto the horse , and the
ladies were thrown from the
buggy.
The many friends of Eli Crock-
ford , who have been in the habit
of enjoying his jokes ( both original
and warmed over ) will be sorry to
learn that a dreadful accident happened -
pened to Eli's mouth. While
playing ball lie caughta foul we he-
lieve it is balled , in his mouth , cutting -
ting open his lip and loosening his
front teeth. He adjourned to
McCook for repairs.
J. F. Black returned to his home ,
May 1st ; having spent the entire
winter in the east soliciting aid
for this drouth stricken country.
He was accompanied by Mr. Bethel -
el , an Illinois gentleman who has
greatly assisted Mr. Black in his
work. On Monday evening a reception -
ception was held in honor of this
gentleman , and many of the neighbors -
bors gathered at Mr. Black's home
where a pleasant evening's conversation -
sation was concluded by a dainty
supper of cakes and ice cream.
Among the guests were Mr. and
Mrs. .I3lackfan of Bartley , Mr. and
Mrs. Barber , Mr. and Mrs. Helm ,
Mr. and Mrs. Miller , the Randall
brothers with their wives , Mr. and
Mrs. Rinek , and many others.
Mr. Bethel leaves for Denver on
Wednesday night.
VAILTON.
Mr. Singer will view the Platte
river country , next week.
David Carpenter will look after
his home farm , this season.
Jas. Hoytis just getting around
after a short but not serious ill-
ness.
Neighbor A. W. Nettleton and
family are with us once more. All
look hearty after their mountain
trip.
Hima Cooley and wife are taking -
ing in eastern scenes at present ,
Mr. Hieber taking care o the farm
in their absence.
Mr. Hunter has been very liberal
in the placing of supplies among
his many friends. Surely generosity -
osity is not an unknown virtue.
We hope we may be flooded with
abundant rains during the nest
three months , which will make business -
iness and traffic a little more brisk
than in the past. We presume we
are not alone in this.
We notice considerable windmill -
mill irrigation of late. It is well ;
once planting and a speedy growth
in the matter of early gardening
is thus bought about , and of course
the true economic principle pre-
vails.
