William Parks , of Red Cloud , a
brother of Mrs. C. S. Quick , with his
wife and Mrs. Lemon , of McCook , a
niece , are visiting Mrs. Quick's family.
Since my last letter , license was
granted to Mr. Charles Huffman and
Miss Elisabeth Riser , both of Kansas.
They were married at McCook by H.

The Republican county convention
on Wednesday was a very harmonious
gathering and nominated a very strong
ticket , as follows : Representative , E.
M. Woods , of Danbury : county attor
ney , W. R. Starr , of Indianola ; commis
sioner 3d district , Stephen Belles , of
Box Elder. If the farmers want ? i rep
resentative in the Legislature they
must vote for Hon. E. M. Woods.
Red Willow county was awarded
sixth premium in the county fair con-
est at the state fair and would have
done much better if the arrangements
decided upon had been carried out. We
also got first on spring wheat , broom
orn and watermelons , and second on
onions and broom corn. Arthur Beck
got first on the best county map. Red
Willow always takes the cake when
she tries. ,
Mrs. Catherine Powell , mother of
the Powell brothers , died at the resi
dence of son her Frank on Monday after
noon of pneumonia. She came on the
lute excursion from Bluffton , Indiana ,
to visit her boys. She was sick when
she left home , but the desire to see her
children grew strong and she came , but
grew worse. The best care and skill
was given her , but the grim monster
had come for her and she had to go.
H. F. Pade , of McCook , was sent for ,
who embalmed the body and prepared
it for the return journey , accompanied
by two of her sons she had come to vi
sit. They left on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was sixty-five years of
age , and leaves five sons in Nebraska
and three daughters in Indiana.
Republican County Convention.
The Ilnpublicans of Red Willow coun
ty convened at Indianohi , Wednesday ,
pursuant to call. Dr. J. E. Ha thorn
was called to the chair , Sylvester Cor-
deal to the secretary's desk.
The chair appointed Dr. S. L. Green ,
Dr. F. W. Eskey , Samuel Premer , E. P.
Day and J. F. Boyer as the committee
on credentials. They found represented
the precincts of Willow Grove , Indian-
ola , Kcd Willow , Lebanon , Box Elder ,
Danbury , East Valley , Gerver , Alliance
and Coleman. The gentlemen being
present , A. G. Dole was granted per
mission by the convention to cast the
vote of Fritsch precinct , A. Utter that
of North Valley. Making 57 votes out
ot 80. The report was accepted.
The chairman of each delegation was
instructed to cast full vote of precinct.
The convention then proceeded to nomi
nations in accordance with the call :
E. M. Woods of Danbury precinct was
nominated by Squire R. S. Baker , and
he was made the unanimous choice of
the convention for representative.
Judge llarlow W. Keyes placed W. II.
Starr in nomination for county attorney ,
and the same was made by acclamation.
Dr. S. L. Green named Stephen A. Belles -
les for commissioner of the third dis
trict and the choice was made by acclam
ation.
Messrs.P. A.Weils , H. W. Keyes and
0. Frost were appointed committee on
resolutions. Their report as follows
was adopted unanimously :
Be it resolved by the representatives
of the republican party of Kcd Willow
county in convention assembled.
RESOLVED , First : That we re-affirm
and adopt the platform of the Republi
can party as adopted by the National
Convention at Minneapolis and the
State Convention at Lincoln , Neb.
Second : That we heartily indorse
and point with pride to the previous
record and principles of the Republican
party ; that the Republican party in thu
past has been the representative of good
government , for the people as a whole
without regard to class , with the excep
tion of Labor , of which it has' always
been the Champion and friend , and has
elevated our laboring classes above that
of any other Nation ; that with the elec
tion of our State and National Republi
can tickets which will represent the
principles of the Republican party in
our State and Nation we insure the
perpetuation of the principles of pro
tection to American industries and re
ciprocity with all Nations which means
continued prosperity in the State and
Nation.
Third : We point with pride anc
pleasure to the record of the presen !
Administration and more especially tc
the recent prompt action of our Chief
Executive , Benjamin Harrison in ex
cluding and preventing the cholera from
entering our ports which demonstrates
the fact that he is equal to any emerg
ency which requires prompt action to
protect the property and homes of the
American people.
Fourth : We heartily endorse the
nominations of this convention and agree
to unite and use our best efforts in se
curing the necessary votes to elect the
candidates nominated here today.
