LEWIS ARRESTED. Win. Lewis was arrested yesterday ( last Thursday ) charged with selling in toxicating liquors without a license , and a preliminary examination was held be fore County Judge Woohuun , today , resulting in his being bound over to the district court. There are some fine points involved in the case , as he has a license which does not expire un til July 1st. It is claimed by the pros ecution that the village board exceeded their authority in issuing a license be yond the close of the municipal year. The only question at issue is , does the statutes fix the closing of the municip al year or the ordinance fixing its close at July first a legal one ? At any rate , 11 nil. juuwia biiuum uu louiiu guilty , n is not a willing violation of the law I but resulting from a misapprehension I of his rights. The trouble is a subjecl to be deplored at this time , and on him. as we believe he has tried to obey the law in business , We are opposed to the license system in its entirety , but at the same time , as long as it remains on our statute books , it must be the law of the land.
