SENATOR LOGAN died a comparative
ly poor man an everlasting monument
to his honesty. Having devoted his
life to the nation unselfishly , his wife
and family will not be forgotten by the
people.
NEARLY every county in Nebraska
found the promise of a new railroad iu
its Christmas stocking. It is to be a
great year" for railroad building in Ne
braska , and McCook will not be neg
lected in the shuffle.
A NEW YORK clergyman says there
will be degrees of punishment hereaf
ter ; that the man who sins the most
will be punished the most , and vice-
versa. According to this belief , the
man who sends a long communication ,
written on both sides , to a newspaper
for publication , won't get much vice-
versa in his. Norristown Herald.
GENERAL LOGAN ever remembered
his comrades in arms. His last public
speech was delivered at a QA. . li.
camp-fire in Yougstown , O. . on Novem
ber 18 , a little more than five weeks
ago. In the course of his remarks he
said : "I believe in pensioning every
soldier living that went into the service
either for a long or short term , who
was wounded in serve or contracted
disease , or has since , through no fault
of his own , become disabled. I be
lieve in pensioning every soldier that
has arrived at the age of sixty-two.
Pass that kind of a law and justice
would be done. "
THERE'S a great deal said in the pa
pers just now about the "long haul"
and the "short haul ; " but it's the big
haul out of the people's pockets that
they must object to. There is a good
deal of that kind of hauling , and it's
not all done by the railroads. And
speaking of discrimination , it may be
observed that all of us like it well
enough when it's in our favor. When
the other fellows get the benefit we
kick and demand a change. Wherefore
the wise man observeth. Verily we
are all made from the same piece of
cloth , though it's thinner iu spots , and
cut a little more on a bias. Chicago

THE Commander in-chief of the
French army , and Secretary of War-
General Boulanger , will demand for the
army budget , this year , it is reported ,
$80.000,000. How do you like that
Uncle Samuel , for a nice little sum to
keep an army on foot without any def
inite perception of warlike operations ?
France will , if this money is voted ,
raise the army pool in Europe this
year. It has cost in recent yeare $2-
000,000 a day to keep on foot the
armies of Europe. If the other nations
keep the proportion thus established by
France the rate will be about $3,000-
000 a day. In one year of peace Eu
rope spends the price of a war.
Beggs' Cherry Cough Syrup
Will relieve that cough almost instantly
and make expectoration easy. Acts simul
taneously on the bowels , kidneys and liver ,
thereby relieving the lungs of that soreness
and pain and also stopping that tickling
sensation in the throat by removing the
cause. One trial ot it will convince any one
that it has no equal on carlh for roiifrhm : l
