of November closes with a inost gratifying
evidence of the continued success of our
school banking system. AVeare now in-cor
rcspondence with some of the leading educa
tore in the state , who are inquiring
into its workings. Wo have also re
ceived a letter from the cashier of the Neb
raska Savings Bank , Lincoln , who desires a
report of our system here , thinking-to extend
the usefulness of the childrens' department
of his bank , by securing the co-operation of
the Board of Education , arid connect the city
schools with that department , Itev. Joel S
Kelsoy , who is the sponsor of the system in
the west , and who takes , a commendable in
tcrest in its advancement , has received num
erous letters of inquiry , and has issued a cir
cular setting forth its salient points' . The fol
lowing report will doubtless be of interest to

Joe Hundal had the misfortune to lose a
valuable porker , the other day.
The road on the bottom , leading south from
the b.ridge , is in its execrable condition.

Frank Preston and Miss Hileman 'represent
ed the South Side at the last meeting of the
Y. P. A. at Mrs. Coy's residence , in the citj %
Anyone coming to town from the South
Side would ( if he had any swear in him , ) cuss
loud and long and earnestly , when they at
tempted to ascend the hill by the river bridge.
That hill may be highly ornamental , but its
usefulness I seriously call in question.

-Mr. Retz is building n good , comfortable sod
house.
Wish some one would get married. Wo are
very fond of .cake.
A. B. Davis got tired of piling corn on the
ground , and built a new crib.
We did wonder what J. W. Corner was build
ing such a big corn-crib for. Now we wonder
where he will pile the ualance of his corn af
ter nlling the crib.
Thos. Whitmer has returned from a visit to
Iowa , where he attended a reunion of his old
regiment , the 35th Iowa , atMuscatino. He
didn't star long , and was glad to get back.
That's ' just like him. He said"'he would have
to make a kind of 'a wind break , to sorter
shelter his stock. " He has just finished the
best shed I have seea in this country , or any
Dther. It is 20x108 feet in size , and is strongly
built. There were nearly 5,000 feet ol lumber
used in its construction. Its on the farm of
IVin. Coleman. He built , nearly 100 feet of
