VAILTON NOTES.
Herman Myers left for Beatrice , Friday , on
real estate business.
No sickness to report , this month. Vailton
will be a popular resort for health-seekers in
the near future.
Charles Rice and sister Anna spent the first
part of the week here while en route for
Hayes Centre , their future home.
Charles Huffman and family from Seward
are spending a few days at the old home.
Mrs. II. is a daughter of Archie Speer. Also
a brother of Mrs. Speer is spending a few
days in our midst.
Mrs. Megrue returned to Clay county , last
week. The surprise gathering at J. F. Me-
grue's was the occasion of one of the pleas-
antest and most enjoyable evenings the socie
ty has passed for a long time.
The basket meeting was a success ; a large
number filled the grove at the appointed hour
and listened to eloquent addresses by Elder
Berry and Mrs. Kanouse , on the subject of
temperance , which was listened to with mark
ed attention , as were the remarks of Rev.
Armstrong. The meeting for next Sabbatli
will be'held at the Dodge's school house.
The Vailton ball players being considerably
outof practice , gotslightlyleftat Banksville ,
but behaved themselves like gentlemen
throughout the entire game. Great credit is
due Messrs. Goodenberger , Winsor , Dodge
and Bell , who spared no efforts to make the
visit and game a pleasant one for the boys.
Mr. Fredericks umpired the game and receiv
ed the usual abuse for his fairness and impar
tiality. We hope if the return game is played
the Vailton boys will honor the game in their
usual courteous manner , extending such hos
pitalities as a long forenoon's ride may re
quire and make the game a pleasant one all
around. RALPH.
