PLEASANT PRAIRIE ITEMS.
II. Steffy moved to Clyde , Kan. , on Tues
day , Aug. 22d.
3Iis3 Flora Bell is visiting fiiends and rel
atives in this neighborhood.
The Casket meeting held on Dry Creek ,
last Sunday , was well attended.
J. O. Goodwin will soon be here to stay.
He is a plasterer and Aill woi k ; it his trade
in McCook.
The best wheat raised on the prairie was
on Mr. Dodge's farm. He also had a fine
crop of timothy.
Annie Relph had her aim thrown out of
place and severely bruNcd , by falling fiom a
horse , Sunday last.
Where there's smoke , there's fire , says the
Irishman. Then let the smoky weather re
mind us of our fire guards.
Stephen Hopkins has the best sod corn in
our park It was drilled one grain in a place
at about eight inches apart. This prevented
the gophers from digging it up.
There will be a match game of ball be
tween the Vailton and Pleasant. Prairie
boys , followed by a dance at Win. Winsor's
on Friday , Sept. 3rd. Everybody is invited
to come and bring their fast horses.

The boys have all icrmned from the rail
road , fully satisfied with their experience.
Ten boys and five girls at a party ! No
wonder some of the boys reported a dry
time.
Register Dobbs , of the Beatrice land of
fice , is sojourning for a few days at Box El
der , the guest of J. B. Piper.
It evidently pays to have the posiofllcc in
this country , at least that is our conclusion ,
when we see the many improvements being
made around the P. 0. at Box Elder.
ilr. and Sirs. D. E. ISIoore have returned
from their visit to New Jersey and interme-
diate points , and report a very pleasant trip.
D. E. will open up his business at Bartly
about the 1st of September.
Another soul made happy , and this time it
is Eev. Bogle , on account of finding water in
his well at a depth of 125 feet. Mr. Bogle
has put up a fine wind mill , much to the joy
of many thirsty horses and cattle.
On Thursday of last week , a number ot
young people gathered at the home of Eev.
J. Long and spent the evening in a very
pleasant manner. Music and games occupy
ing the hour until the time of retiring.
Notwithstanding the long continued drouth
much of the com in this section retains its
fresh and green appearance , and is earing
quite well , much better than could be expect
ed showing the marvelous character of the
soil in standing dry weather.
MARRIAGE BELLS.
At the residence of the bride's paients , near
Box Elder , August 25th , Miss Etta King-
horn , of Box Elder , and Mr. J. E. Brain-
aril , of Buda , Illinois , were duly united in
marriage. Justice Chrysler , ofliciating.
The couple took the evening train at In-
dianola for their eastern home. The best
wishes of their many friends go with them.
Mis.s Kinghorn hail formed a large circle of
friends since coming to this place , two jears
ago , all of whom regret to see her go. Es
pecially will she be missed from our Sunday
School , where she was a faithful and ener
getic worker. The wedding was a quiet one ,
only a few intimate friends being invited.

Long , Mattie Weygint , Loulou Moore , Lou
Chrysler , and Messrs. . T. Kinghorn , V. Bo
gle , F. Cogger , M. A. Stewart. The follow
ing presents were received by the bride : y
dozen silver spoons , Mr. M. A. Stewart and
Miss Mattie Weygint ; set salt cellars , Aggie
Kinghoru ; pair Turkish towels. Miss Ollie
Long ; Quilt , Mrs. J. Long ; X doz. napkins ,
Miss Loulou Moore ; pair towels , Miss Lou
Chrysler ; silver caster , Mrs. E. Kinghorn.
