County Central Committee Meeting.
There will be a meeting of the Republican
County Central Committee at the Court House ,
Indianola , Neb. , August 7th , 1886 , at 1 o'clock ,
P. M. A full attendance is urgently requested.
F. M. EuiMKLti , J. E. BERGER ,
Secretary. Chairman.
THE little political ax is being ground
up in fine shape , these days.
WE are informed that Senator J. W.
Dolan has secured one delegate from
Hayes county , with a fair prospect of
getting the support of the remaining
one.
THE Burlington seems to have settled
on Taylor's pass as the proper place to
cross the range. When once she starts ,
stand from under. Grand Junction will
catch on sure. Grand Junction ( Uolo. )
News.
WESTERN Nebraska is of one mind
in regard to the candidacy of Hon. GL. .
Laws for secretary of state. We have
no doubt but he will receive the nomin
ation on the 29th of September. Ox
ford Standard.
THE woods seems to be full of embry-
otic candidates , but all of them are afflict
ed with an unusual and unprecedented
attack of modesty , which is unnatural ,
unnecessary and unbecoming. Will some
one please knock the ebony-hued genius
off the wood pile ?
THE demijohn announces with all
due solemnity that J. Byron Jennings ,
of our city , is NOT a candidate for
county attorney. The demi has a great
time , these days , announcing supposi
tions republican candidates , ( the effer
vescence of his own disordered imagina
tion , ) in one issue , and in the following
correcting the same. The display of
-ears is just as amusing to the public.
IT is confidently asserted that Web
ster will not be able to elect a full dele
gation from Hitchcock county to .sup
port him in convention for the State
Scnatorship. If such is the case , the
ColonelV'jig is up , " and Senator Dolan
will succeed himself.
A MEETING of the itnpublicaii Cen
tral Committee of the 30th Senatorial
District was held in this city , last Sat
urday afternoon , in accordance with the
call of the Chairman. Those present
were : W. S. Morlan , Furnas county ,
B. M. Vastine , Hitchcock county ; Geo
Ilocknelj , lied Willow county ; and Sec
retary Taylor of Hitchcock county
The state basis of representation from
the various counties of the district was
adopted. The convention of the district
was called for September Oth , at Men-
ard's Opera House , in this city.
HOW IS IT ?
After the county fair , last fall , President
T. C. Teas , of the County Agricultural Society
presented to the county clerk his certificate
as prescribed bylaw , with the view of obtain
ing additional funds with which to pay off the
premiums that had been earned. Nothing was
done about the matter until June , of this year
when the county commissioners ordered a
warrant drawn in favor of D. E. Moore for
S131.7H on the levy of 1886. Now what we wa.nt
to know is , is this sum to be appropriated
among those who drew premiums atthocoun-
ty fair last fall , and only received fifty cents
on the dollar , or is it to be added to the f una
for distribution at the coming county fair ?
Again , if this sum is placed to the credit of
the coming county fair , what is to hinder their
securing the amount that the society is enti
tled to and adding it to the same fund this
year ? The law contemplates that the ainounl
appropriated by the county for any one year
shall go to pay the expenses and premiums of
that year , but hero we are presented with the
spectacle of the society getting two appropria
tions in one year. For no one can question if
a county fair can be held at McCook , as now
contemplated , the society will be entitled to
the appropriation out of the county treasury
of the amount contemplated by law , and which
it may lawlully appropriate to the paymcntof
its expenses and premiums for 1880. Indianola
Courier.
This is the how is it of it , Georgie :
The amount you refer to , $131.70 , was
drawn in favor of President Moore , and
for the use and benefit of the 188G meet
ing of the society , because the legal
steps were taken by the officers , THIS
SPRING , to secure the benefit of the
provisions of the law relating to agri
cultural societies , and has nothing to do
with what the late president , Mr. Teas ,
did LAST FALL. In other words you
are completely off your eggs about this
entire matter. One appropriation is all
the present management will use , so
compose your excited feelings , and
keep perfectly cool and be.tter informed
in the future.
BANKSVILLE BULLETIN.
o
Conundrum : Does any one know what
attracts 3Iose 3IcKeir/.ie up iu this section ?
In our last article we are quoted as saying
"breezy firmament" iu one item which should
have been "brassy firmament. "
Mrs. Prof. Webster came out from McCook
a few days last week bringing a lady friend
and sojourned on the homestead.
Threshing and haying are now the order
of the day. Sax. Coltrain's wheat threshed
last week , yielded IS bushels per acre , we
are told.
A. D. Lincoln departed for Friend , on
Tuesday , July 21st. lie has been getting his
family settled on the homestead , and now
returns to his vocation , i. e. , traveling for
Baker's patent medicines.
There will probably be a match game of
base ball between the Danbury nine and the
Banksville nine on one week from Friday on
our grounds near John Goodenberger's , fol
lowed by a dance at John Winsor's in the
evening.
Miss Maggie Goodwin is looking for her
mother to return from Crete on Thursday of
this week , when there will be one more young
lady made happy. Mrs. Goodwin will be ac
companied byMr.K , well , guess we won't
give it away. But it is one of the reasons
Maggie is happy.
The Sabbath schools near propose to join
and have a pic-nic at Cedar Bluffs on August
19th , when and where it is proposed to have
a good time generally. Committees from the
several schools met on last Sunday and draft
ed a program and perfected other arrange
ments for the same. Everybody is invited to
come and bring all the good things they
have to eat.
A number of our people were disappointed
on Saturday afternoon last who came to see
a game of base ball between Vailton and the
home club. For some reason the Vailton
club did not appear. But the spectators were
treated ( ? ) to the exhibition of a man ( ? ) try
ing to do the riot act , but who failed for want
of "sand , " but who nevertheless succeeded
in insulting the ladies who came to witness
the game. The boys have resolved that such
proceedings shall not occur again. So that
spectators need not stay away anticipating a
repetition of the occurrence. We are glad to
say that the most of our boys are gentlemen.
But we must expect to find the opposite in
all miscellaneous crowds , we suppose , al
though we have no use ior them.

Oh , fire off the cannons , and ring the bells

it. And then lie smole a smile , we mean he
would , if it had been a boy.
Mrs. J. E. Carney and family , whose 1ms-

killed by lightning , last Tuesday evening ,

entire community in their affliction.
