The Tribune F. M. & E. M. KIMMELL , Editors and Publishers. Official City and County Paper. PROCLAMATION. ESTABLISHING QUARANTINE. EXECUTIVE OFFICE , I LIKCOLN , NEBRASKA , July 18,1885. Tho quarantined so declared , and established , will be enforced by the Live Stock Sanitary Commission and the State Veterina rian. In Testimony Whereof I have here unto set my hand and caused to be af fixed the Great Seal of the State of [ SEAL. ] Nebraska. Done at Lincoln this 18th day of July , A. D. 1885. JAMES W. DAWES. By the Governor. Attest : E. P. BOQGEN , Secretary of State. G. P. S. WINTEKSTEEN , Deputy. THERE is one thing the Dolphin can do. She can back out. THE Hastings Nebraskan evidently is of the opinion that Mr. Thompson's name is PANTS. THE failure of John Roach , the cele brated Erie ship-builder , is announced. The liabilities are placed as high as $20- 000,000. WE see it stated that the Cheyenne County Rustler is no more. .Editor Thur- man , however , is supposed to be well preserred. THE Lincoln Land Co , has purchased 200 acress of land at Edison , a few miles east of Arapahoe , and will prob ably start a town there in the near fu ture. The company also owns a fine town site a few miles west of Cambridge. THE Holdredge Republican says that , " "Dick Thompson has met a formidable opponent in the person of Col. E. M. Allen of Juniata , and he is not so cer tain of a comfortable berth in the Mc- Cook land office as he was a short time ago. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ J - NEBRASKA leads the corn procession this year as usual with a per cent , of ninety-seven , in the latest report of the agricultural department. Kansas fol lows afar off with eighty-three. The crop prospects all over the country have improved materially since the report of last month. THE Canadian parliament has voted a subsidy of twenty thousand dollars to .General Middleton for his Winnipeg campaign. Where is the Uoston man with his gattling gun , who really whip ped Riel ? Seems as though he ought to''get a money compliment , or be ele vated to the Canadian peerage. THE Supreme Court of this state has just recently rendered a decision in fa vor of the town of Blue Springs in their suit against the B. & M. railroad. This is probably the most remarkable case of this nature ever tried in this cornmon- wealth. The Court has issued the fol lowing mandamus : State of Nebraska , ex ral. , Frank W. Mattoon andWm. C. Hill vs.tho Republican Valleyrail- road company : The respondent is ordered to forthwith change the order , method and man ner of runing its trains on its lines between VTymore and Beatrice , so that all passenger trains running thereon shall stop at such point as may be established for a depot at Blue Springs as hereinafter provided , sufficiently long for the receipt and discharge of passen gers and that a sufficient number of freight trains on said line shall stop at such depot as shall meet ihe demands of the business of tho said Blue Springs ; which said order , method or manner of running said trains shall be adopted and maintained by said respondent so as not to discriminate against said Blue Springs or its business or the depot to be erected and established there as hereinafter provided. Al so that the said respondent is ordered within sixty days from said date , to lay down , erected and establish at some point on its said line ' within the corporate limits of the city of Blue Springs suitable side tracks , switches and de pot buildings adequate to the business of said * Blue Springs , and that ithereafter keep and maintain the same so as not to discriminate against the said Blue Springe , its business or depot , provided , that itUd Bids tracks and - swiicfie&may.bc.lald down , said depot erected and such trains stopped'as herein-beforo , pro vided , at some suitable point contiguous to said city oCBlue Springs , and without its cor porate limits in case such point and location shall bejBgrecdjipqnby tho.mayorfond coun cil of sa4by-pf BtutfSprings , within thirty days f otriilnl-fiate , such agreement to be ev idenced by ordinance or in such other manner as may be equally as binding upon * said city , * andTiMt I&r&bitaqts thereof. ; BY the first of October , says John Fitzgerald , the heavy railroad contract or , the sound of the locomotive whistle will be heard in Oberlin , Kansas. THE mortality in the cities among the little ones , these days , is fearful. The temperature is such that the revised sheol does not seem to express the mat ter satisfactorily. THE president's eye never wanders. He looks you clearly and honestly in the face , speaks always frankly and directly to the point if the errand is one of busi ness , and with a decidedly merry and genial tact if the errand is simply to pay respects to him. His voice is best de scribed by the expression of "fat falset to. " It is such a voice as you always meet in men of big , fleshy , bulky bodies. His favorite attitude is with his hands behind his back , not clasped , but the palms about six inches apart , and he unconsciously keeps up a steady flap ping of the left hand. He looks at his feet a great deal , and sometimes seems to be amusing himself by stepping about on the various figures on the carpet , es pecially if the conversation be weari some , as it very often is. From 10 un til 12:30 : the president rarely sits down. Baltimore Herald. THE official report of the extent and spread of the present cholera epidemic in Spain places the whole number of cases at thirty thousand and the deaths at thirteen thousand , or forty-three per cent , of the whole number attacked by the disease. This is an extremely high death rate and shows either that the disease is of a highly virulent type or the treatment very inefficient. There is little doubt that the sanitary condition of many of the towns where the disease has raged is very bad , and it is quite probable that the medical attendance in many places is very inefficient. It is not very comforting , however , to read of the ravages of a disease that under any circumstances carries off nearly half the persons attacked. The most philosoph ical and stout-hearted American will hope that a disease of so deadly a type will give this country a wide berth. York Republican : W. L. Morgan re ceived a telegram from McCook , on Thursday , announcing the death of his friend and former partner , David Kerr. Mr. Kerr came to this place with Mr. Morgan some two years ago , and worked with him on the southeast corner brick building and onRobt. Armstrong's store. He was a good workman and a steady temperate young man , thoroughly re spected by all who knew him. He had been at work at McCook , and had se cured a pre-emption on which he had proved up , and taken a homestead and timber claim in Red Willow county. He was only 27 years old , and was as much respected in his new location as he was here. Nearly all his relations live in Scotland , where there will be sad hearts to mourn the loss of the brave , promising young man. During the recent Indian scare many families left Thomas county , going east. One hundred teams passed Pat Fleming's in one day. The occupants were so badly frightened that they would not listen to reason or fact , but kept on east in search of a deadsure place of safety. Atwood Citizen. A LADY was walking along Main street very rapidly. A gentleman was walking behind the lady at an equally rapid pace. The lady saw a pin on the sidewalk and stooped suddenly to pick it up. The gentleman failed to put down brakes and took a header over the lady. Neither party secured the pin. THE Georgia evangelist , Sam Jones , thus sums up the elect : "Oh , the Lord's army is a , magnificent body when on dress parade , Sunday , but when God beats the long roll on Wednesday , it is lie down , militia , I am going to bust a cap. " GOD won't keep a young lady pious who has her waist encircled seven times a week by the arms of a spider-legged dude Gospel accordin' to Sam Jones , the Evangelist. CAESAR was evidently mistaken when lie remarked that , "ALL Gaul is divided into three parts. " We have seen some . . gall in these parts which presents an un- iiroken front. Some elegant writing paper and en- relopes just received at this office. No ancy boxes , but heavy , , finely-finished japers. FROM the knowledge of what you ihuuld not do , you may easily judge vhat you should do. WE iriay laugh or weep at the sadness if mankind ; we have no right what- ver to vilify them. THE SHOOTING. A very sad shooting affair occurred on las Thursday , about noon. The facts in the case are as follows : It seems that two or three men had made several attempts to outrage Mrs. Frank DeLand and her sister. Thej sent for J. D. Stoddard , who is a Justice of the Peace , to protect them and arrest the offenders. He went down to the dugout where DeLand lives and found the men. He did not attempt to make any arrest because he did not know tho parties until he and the men had come up in town near the City Ho- teL When he had reached that place he sent down after the women to come up and ideii tify the men who had assaulted them. They did so and Mr. Stoddard informed them that they were under arrest One of the men struck3Tr. Stoddard and Mr. Stoddard struck him over the head with the revolver. At this time one of the men named James Meeliai jumped on to 3Jr , _ Stoddard grasping in his hand the handHf 'Mr. S. that held the revol ver. In the tussle the revolver was discharg ed and James Meehan received the bullet in the lower part of the abdomen causing his death on Saturday morning. A preliminary examination will be held before Judge Kent at Alma on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Republican City Topic. IMPORTANT NOTICE.
