L. Gaston of Ansel mo , was a city visitor last Satur day. Tbe Republican acknow ledges a social call. Judge Reese returned Tues day night from Beatrice where be attended tbe funeral of Cap tain Brooks , late of Dunning. Misses Golda and Gladys Brown , daughters of Sam Brown , who have been in Colorado the past year returned to Broken Bow recently. George Stevenson , the deputy orgarmor of the Royal Highland ers , has been at Alliance the past ten days looking after the work in that locality. Public Sale of Duroc Males from the herd of Reese & Martin at the livery and sale barn of Nelson & Miller , Broken Bow , Saturday , Dec. 14 , at 1 p. m. J. T. Wood has sold his resi dence property , consisting of ten acres joining- the city or the east , to W. F. Higginbottom , of Myrtle township. We under stand the consideration was * 3500. Cljde Wilson who is to be clerk in the county treasurer's office under treasurer elect Mack- ey is helping in the treasurer's c ffice so as to get familiar with the duties of the oflice. The recognitation of Gus Taylor makes a vacancy for him. Mrs. E. D. Marquis , who has been ill with dirbetes and under the care of Dn Sheridan for the past month , has recovered and left Thursday night , in com- pauy with her husband , for Wyoming where they will spend the winter with their daughter. She WHS to speak at the Baptist church Tuesday night hut on account of the rain the lecture was cancelled. At the request of Kvangeliue Myers , the teacher of this section she inive a vety helpful and interesting talk to the pu pils on Wednesday morning. She came here under the auspices of the W. C. T. U. of the place. I < eon Lambert and Charley J inney started to school this week , Mrs. Bert Thurman , who has for over two months been suffering from nervous prostration was taken to Calluway Wed nesday for oestopalhic treatment , having been given up by pbysiciaus. Bird Mongey , who has been in the "Grent Wild and Woolly West" for about a year and a half returned home Tuesday night. Little Iras Ward , who for some has been sick with typhoid fever , was taken to Kearney for treatment last week. Mrs. Dessie VauCIeave , of Kearney , has been visiting with her mother-in-law Mrs. 1 * . T. Vancleave and family the past week. On last Tuesday afternoon the Moth ers' Meeting was held at Mrs. Ryau'a. In spite of the inclement weather , there were twelve present. Mrs , Wallace spoke to the ladies. Hoosier Notes. R. B. Johnson and family and Mr. McCoy and family visited with Porter Whitney the first of the week. Garland Lewis was a visitor at C. M. Street's and also ut the Literary Thursday evening , Mr. Whitney graved the elements and went to town Monday. An old tinier in tins valley was uearu to remark after tbe first snow was gone that the winter bad already seemed as long as the longest in years. Wonder what he thinks about it now ? The question for debate for Thursday evening Dec. i6th is Resolved , that the amount required for improvemsut on Kiukaid homesteads should be reduced from $1.35 to .75 per acre. Guilford. Little is known in this vicinity this week. The snow has delayed corn husking. People are anxious to yet stock into their fields. Steve Taylor was kicked by n horse Sunday aud is now nursing his lame limb by the fire. C. Talbot shipped a car load of cattle to Omaha. Mi. and Mrs Tom Wright nud Retta Young spent Tuesday at Amsberry's. Wednesday Dec. 1st was the last day of Miss Rains' school. A goodly crowd of the patrons were present to listen to our well rendered program and to express their regrets for the closing of bchool and give their thanks for service render ed by the teacher. The children did well in nil their parts aud showed their respect aud love by presenting n beauti- iiu luxzo irameu picture oi ruaro H horses to the teacher. Several of the pupils presented individual gifts for remembrance. When the children were singing that beautiful Christmas song "Kris Kringle , " Old Santa came in and gave each child a well filled sack of candy , nuts and oranges. The school is out , a little draught we've drunk at Wisdom's spring ; may deeper draughts by us be quuffed , and may we to ber cling. Mr , Rains and Nannie spent the last day with us.
