In the absence of the captain of the company ho officiated aa captain until about the 1st of February , 1800 , when ho was promoted to the rank of captain of company G. , in which capacity he served with dis tinction until the regiment was mustered out. He was the late candidate for sheriff on the repub lican ticket , and was only short eighty-two votes of election.
