Always let well enough alone when

There liavo boon various stories
written about the BtcalltiK of the Hal-
tlmoro and Ohio Hail I load engines
at MnrtlnshtifK , W. Va. , during the
rebellion and their transfer across the
country for service on southern rull-
loads by Col. Thomas Sharp , who is
still living In Ohio. Recently , an of
ficial ot the Ualtimoro and Ohio Hall
Head made some Imiulrlcs o ( old em
ployes who were at Martlnsburg nt
the time the Incident happened nnd
they say that on Juno 19 , 18C1 , 200
men of Gen'l Stonewall Jackson's
command were detailed to destroy the
Unltlmoro and Ohio's equipment nt
Martlnsburg. They piled wood nnd
coal over 41 engines and nearly 400
cars and then sot lire to them. Only
, ten or twelve of the engines , however ,
were seriously damaged , and these not
by the fire , but because the water was
fiiRt let out of the boilers. Col. Sharp
arrived In MtirllnsbtirK on August 18 ,
1SC1 , and remained there until the fol-
I lowing March , engaged In removing
engines , machinesy , etc. Ho took
fight engines across the country over
the turnpike , cither to Staunton , Win
chester of Strasburg , ( and there are
some historians who disagree on this
i point ) 32 horses being required to haul
each engine. Ho also removed all the
duplicate parts ot engines nnd cars
nnd all the rough Iron at the station ,
and took nway all machinery and
i tools which were afterward used In the
Southern arsenals. The country around
Martlnsburg Is extremely hilly nnd the
work of getting the engines over the
country roads required considerable
' engineering ability. It has been cur-
i rcntly reported In late years that one
I of the locomotives was the Wlnans
i camel-back No. ! )0 ) which at that time
' was numbered 77 , but Col. Sharp did
'not care for this class of engines nnd
took only ten wheel nnd passenger en
gines. There was only one eight wheel
locomotive taken and that was No. 31.
Some years after the war Col. Sharp
was employed on the Baltimore and
Ohio Hall Head ns Master of Trans-
i portatlon.

"OMEN do suffer !
Even so-called healthy women suffer !
But they are not healthy !
The marks left by pain are on the young faces of many of our
daughters. Pain that leaves its mark comes from a curable *
cause. If that cause is not removed its
influence reaches out and overshadows n
whole life. The reason Lydiu E. PJnkham'3
Vegetable Compound has been so uni
formly successful for over a quarter of a
century in overcoming the suffering of
women , is that it is thorough and goes
directly to the cause. It is a woman's
remedy for woman's ills.
Miss EMILY F. HAAS , of 148 Freeman
St , Grcenpoint , Brooklyn , N. Y. , writes :
"DEAR MRS. PlNKHAM I V/ish to
ctate that I used your Vegetable Com
pound with the greatest success. I
was very sick for nearly a year with
hysteria , was down-hearted nnd
nervous ; also suffered with , 'pninful
menstruation and pain in back and
limbs. I often wished for death ,
thinking nothing would cure me. I
had doctors , but their medicines did
me no good. At last , by the advice
of a friend , I began to take Lydia E.
Pmkham's Vegetable Compound ,
and I am happy to say it has entire
ly cured Tne.
JKNNIH SHERMAN , of Fremont ,
Mich. , Box 748 , writes :
DEAR MRS. PINKIIAM : I feel
that I must write you and tell
you what your medicine has
done for me. I had neuralgia
of the stomach for two years ,
so bad that I could not do any
work. I had two or three doctors -
tors , but did not seem to get any bet
ter. I began taking Lydia E. Pink-
ham's Vegetable Compound and Liver

better appetite , and after taking three bottles of Compound
nnd one box of Liver Pills , can say that I am cured. Your
Vegetable Compound is a wonderful medicine. "

WHAT A
Has to say who has had 35 YEARS of active Practice of Medicine :
I have never Iwforc In my 35 years of practice of medicine jriveu my testimonial or recommen
dation to any patent medicine , hut there is n lemedy , thu icsult of which lias come under my own
observation , for there is no Disease which has so bafiled the medical skill of all nfjes as Rheuma-
tUm and to find n Reliable remedy lor the same. At last we have found it in " 5 Drops , " manu
factured by the Swanson Rheumatic Cure Company , Chicago , III. The " 5 DROPS , " has proven
itself wonderful for its curative power in Rheumatism , not as a Temporary Reliever only , hut to
ylve n Permanent Cure even in chronic cases. Sometime mjo , I had
among others several Rheumatic cases under my treatment and pre
scribed for those patients the very best Remedies which I skillfully se
lected , but without desirable results. I then heard of " 5 IHOI'S''and
of Its Wonderful Cures , nnd prescribed it to a few palicnU who found re
lief from its use within a , few days. After that I prescribed It ton great
niimlicr and to my surprise , I will say that in the conr.se of Two or Three
Weeks after they had ued " 5 DROPS" and " 5 Drop" Plasters they
were Cured , Atiionff these were n few who had , fora number < if years ,
been suffering with Chronic Rheumatism , who hitd piloted UicinnelveH
around on Crutches. They came to my office without Crutches and told
me they were t > erfectly Well. They give nil the credit to " 3 DROPS"
and to " 5 Drop" Plasters nnd this is their testimony to the Swanson
[ TItADt-JlAIIK. ] Rheumatic Cure Company for their kindlier nnd for the conscientious
way in which they are placing thesis Wonderful Remedies amoiiK suffering humanity , which they
told mite write to thu Compau v as nil acknowledgement. As I have seen the Curative Power of
" 5 DROPS" and " 5 Drop" Plasters , in a great many instance- can Truly iccoimncnd them
and also that the linn Is perfectly honest and reliable to deal with.
