Tnterest In the rase of Dr. I.ee Van Camp, county phyalrian for 14 years, now facing a federal court indictment for having sold narcotics to a drug addict, was quickly revived Tuesday by a decision delivered Monday by t'hs I'nited Slates supreme court. The supreme court held that physi cians, in prescribing narcotics to ad dicts, are not required to restrict the quantity railed for hy their prescrip tions to small does for strictly cura tive purposes, when the narcotics ars to he self administered hy the ad dict. In the lower curoti the govern ment won In its contention that when the narcotics are to he self-admini stered the physician can prescribe only that quantity which will be a curative, and not place sufficient nar cotics in the hands of the addict to enable him to become a seller of nar cotics, or to administer to himself does larger than those necessary to effect a cure. Dr. A'an Camp was arrested by federal agents after a drug addict had called on him three times for mor phine. The first two times Dr. Van Camp prescribed morphine for the ad dict on his promise to leave Omaha. The third time the addict was re fused, Dr. Aran Camp said. While counsel retained hy the phy sician to fight the two counts of the indictment were reluctant to he quot ed regarding the supremo court de cision, it was regarded as certain that they would rely upon it to win quick freedom from the charges for their client. Woman Evangelist Will Conduct Revival Here Evangelical meetings will be held at the Swedish Methodist church, Nineteenth and Burt streets, begin ning April 28. Miss Mabel A'aage. Newman. Neb., is the evangelist. The services will begin at 8 each evening and will tie conducted in the English language, according to Kev. K. A. Stromberg, pastor. King of the Jazz. The most spectacular public dem onstration the Golden Gate region has seen this year was the wonderful reception accorded recently in Han Francisco to Aed Lewis, "the jazz king,” and his orchestra, appearing at the Orpheum this week, when they arrived in the west, coast city to begin a three-weeks' engagement at the Orpheum theater. More than 5.000 friends and admirers were at the ferry dock to welcome Lewis and five local bands provided the musical inspiration and rendered homage to this leading figure in modern synco pation. On the steps of the city hall Mr. Lewis was presented the key to the city. This Is the first appearance in Orpheum circuit vaudeville of this famotis entertainer and his orchestra, but their fame had preceded them through phonograph records and pub licity and they are achieving sensa tional success on every Orpheum en gagement.
