REMOVED Kin ft Dr. Clyde A. Roedcr Tosti , fies He Removed Organ to Save Man's Life. William M. Kimble had the unusual experience of looking at one of his own kidneys. The kidney rested In a Jar standing on the railing of the witness stand In District Judge I.exile's court, while Dr. Clyde A. Itoeder testified. Klmhle Is suing the Burgeon for $86,000, alleging that the removed the organ unnecessarily. There Is some doubt In the mind of the plaintiff as to whether the organ Is really his. So his attorney declared. Dr. Itoeder declares it Is, and offers It as evidence that the organ had to he removed. ‘‘Why did you remove the kidney?’’ Kimble's attorney asked. “Because I knew the man would die If I did not,’’ said Dr. Boeder. Itoeder declared he found Klmhle suffering with a new disease of the kidney, characterized by many little Inflamatlons, “the most dangerous kidney we know," he said. "Vou knew the plaintiff had chronic tonsil trouble and that this could af fect the kidneys, didn't you?" asked Kimble's attorney. “Why didn’t you remove the tonsils?” “Ninety-five per cent of the people have chronic tonsilltis," said the doctor. “It is a question when to remove them and when not to." MISSOURI VALLEY OFFICERS NAMED Missouri Valley, la., April S.—Ed Soebold, newly elected mayor and the new' city council ran up against a •nag in their meeting Tuesday night when they decided to separate the offices of city clerk and water com missioner, combined under one head a few years ago. Miss llerma Bond, former deputy county clerk, was appointed city clerk, hut It was found necessary to piss a new' ordinance to make pos sible the appointment of a water com missioner. This waa done, and the new appointee will he Charles Sigler. The full list of appointees follows: Marshal and street commissioner, Ed Frazier; night marshal, Robert Morton; cily clerk, Hernia Bond; water commissioner, Charles Sigler; elty attorney, Hugh Tarnislea; health officer, Dr. S. Pastor Is Accused in Lamp Black Fraud Chemistry mixed with religion has landed the ‘ Rev. Dr." Lyell Rader of Newark, N. J.t In the arms of the Jaw. He is charged with defrauding Adrian D. Joyce, Cleveland manufac turer, of $25,000 hy telling him he had discovered a new way of making lamp black. Joyce says he discovered that the sampler Ruder submitted were pur chased in a drug store. Rader, out on $50,000 bond, denies the charges. Motorist Waives on Drunkenness Charge Regan, la., April 8.—1 . P. Fraker, 55, of Rake City, driver of an automo bile which overturned near here Mon day, waived preliminary hearing here today on a charge of driving a car while intoxicated. By International News Seri ire. Baltimore, Md., April 9.—Invisible llglit is the latest contribution of science to the art of modern warfare. Addressing the American Chemical society here last night, Dr. Robert W. Wood, professor of experimental phys ics at Johns Hopkins university phys plnlned that the "Infra-red” rays, which ordinarily produce no color sen sation on the eye. may be used effect ively for sending military signals. These signals, if flashed from a sig nal laps, said Professor Wood, nre visible to observers using field glasses equipped with a screen simi lar to that In the lamp. "To an enemy not equipped with like apparatus.” said the professor, "these rays are Invisible. Signals can be transmitted in full sunlight in this manner for a distance of from five to eight miles.” The same prinelplee that are ap plied to invisible light. Dr. Wood said, aid now being used in delecting for geries and clever alterations of docu ments.
