Industry Must Stand on 0\vr\ Fort. He Tells Cotton Manufacturer*. Washington, April 7.- While pledg lng just ire by the government In Its relations with business. President Coolidge looks to the management of industry as mainly responsible for the conduct of industry. “There ought to he a more candid understanding between the govern ment and all industrial effort." he said in an address to the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers last night. “Due to the keenness of competi tion and the urgent desire for suc cess. it is necessary to maintain the most constant watchfulness on the part of the government, to Insure the enforcement of law. But on the part of the mnna#»ment!Hherft should like wise he the same vigilance to Insure the observance of law. President. Coolidge justified the tariff, declaring that the “towering stature of our industrial structure as we qoe It today is the best, is indeed the complete vindication of this policy." Reviewing conditions in the cotton Industry, Mr. Coolidge pledged full as sistance of the federal government in fighting the boll weevil and endorsed the suggestion for a treaty of coop eration among the cotton producing ptatpq a means of eliminating this destructive pest. VETS’ ENCAMPMENT TO BE AT FREMONT Fremont, April Thi* city will b* thn scene of the stale encampment of the Veteran* of Foreign Wars. The council of administration voted to hold the state sessions In Fremont after considering other invitation*. Fifteen members of the state de partment (fathered here at a special meeting to name the site of the con vention. Department Commander W. J. Atkinson of Kearney presided. About 200 hundred veterans are ex peeled to attend the encampment. Definite plans to handle the gather ing will he in charge nf the Barson Peterson post of Fremont. Culp eloped with the leader of his choir at Spring Valley, O., and was forgiven by his wife after serving a workhouse sen-1 tence. YEOMEN CONCLAVE OPENS AT FREMONT Fremont. April 7.—The fifth quad rennial state conclave of the Brother hood of American Yeomen of Ne braska opened in Fremont. Tuesday and will close on Wednesday night, following a brinquet and dance. Ivanhoo lodge No. 775 of Fremont has charge of the plans for the state meeting. An extensive program will be carried out for the entertainment of the visiting Yeomen. Tuesday afternoon a class of 50 juvenile members will be adopted with a degree team of 15 youths staging the work. In the evening a program of entertainment precedes the initia tlon of 25 members. Business pessions will occupy the Yeomen Wednesday and a banquet will be held at Hotel Pathfinder, fol lowed by a ball at Kagles hall. About 55 delegates are expected to attend from the various lodges of the state. FLOOD PERIL AT EAST OMAHA Residents in Fast Omaha and the river bottoms were given a scare Sun day when the Missouri river took a sudden rise and for a short time look ed like it would overflow. The river started a speedy rise Sun day and by noon was within two feet of flood sirfge. Shortly after ndon the river started recede and most of the danger passed. April 7.—May 1 ha* been set as the date for the annual formal opening of the Oak Hill Coun try flub. Previous to that date an nouncement will be made of the regu lar program of social events end sports for the first period of the sum mer. The women s social committee, the house commitlee and the sports com mittee will have charge of the prepa ration of the several programs. While the formal opening will'not be until May 1, which Is two weeks earler than laat year, impromptu ac tivities may be held from lime to time as weather and circumstances permit.
