Market in Wheal Bobs Up and Down. Support at Close Lreat Strength Developed in Last Hour; Rad Crop News From Southwest Stimulates Priees. R.« IHARI.K* ,1 I FA OV. V inusrsftl .Service Staff < orretpondsnt. Chicago. March 21—Unsettled by ex-1 treme weakness in * orn. the whoa; mar Iret bobber! up and down moat of the tlms today, but in he lart lvjur developed great strength wg aggreeaiw support «*r rered the pit. Rid crop news from the Mouth wear. a heavy reduction in re united States visit.Ie supply, higher T,i\di pnoi cables and stability in rye. all served to stimulate the leading rtreeal finally. Wheat flntslvd 1 'a H■-lo high**;, < orn Mas •'•H03He lov •'%. oat- wer* .c higher to He lower and rye ruled 6up. Due to the fact that the L1\ rp»»<d rnar ':et la selling at too small a pr. mlum over Chicago, the trade hrs been slow to fol low the advances In the market of late, out the dtps have encountered timely sup port. Pressure today at any time was light, and only tht radical decline In corn brought about the bad spill in wheat from the early high. The seaboard confirmed export sales of ‘ 0‘i,Q00 to 490,000 bushels of wheat and rye sales of 1,500.000 bushels. Germany hus the biggest buy r. Liverpool closed 3*«<t|2% pence higher. Torn faded away under scattered liqui dation, showing a loss of 9 cents at one *ime. Buying power in corn for several days has been unusually f-eble. Omni’ •he improved cash situation, and selling V several commission house* t<.da> . jj-i prior to the drastic fall, found support almost non-existent. Cash corn was in air demand, with the basis irregular at the lust. Oats wore inclined to sympathize v 11h ’’■•heat at tht last. Prices sagged with corn early, but ’.net a better class of com mission house buying and rallied to an rreguiar close. Export buying of rye xras much in ev hence, and speculative support was thus attracted. Covering by shorts was a lat font ut e. Provisions were reactionary In line with corn. Lard was 10012off and ribs vers 200S5c off. Pit Notes. Dry weather continue* over the major portion of the southwest and many of the complaints that came in advi«<-d that * rop prospects for wheat wer- the poor '.i in years. The gulf states had .-orne ain. but Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebras : a had none. Fresh buying «,f wheat was encouraged near the close by reports of dust and n Indstorins over important pro ducing regions of Kansas. The decrease of 4.007,000 bushels In the domestic visible came as expected. The total \lsible non is 62.076.000 bushels. ompared with HO,624."no bushels la,at year. A few months ago visible supplies were 20.ooo.00o bushels larges than the corresponding time last year. The de mand for cash wheat in all markets was fairly active with offerings moderate. Stocks at Minneapolis for two dajs de creased 1 00.000 bushels. The supply of wheat and flour nn the ocean for the Week showed a decrease 2.776.000 bushels. The heavy supplies en route to foreign shores have been n fcOUtce of worry to the bulls the last feu weeks, but should stocks continue to fail in jluring the last week, the bulls will become greatly encouraged. Bar l of the lowering of ocean stock was probably due to the lighter world shipments. However, consumption on the other side Js apparently going on in rap id stylo at current levels. Supplies of wheat on the ocean aggregate *7,043,000 bushels compared with 69.056,000 bushels ;'st year. CHICAGO PRICES. By Updike Grain Co . Atlantic 631: \rf. I Open. 1 High. ! Low, l Close. 1 Sat. By T. FI.YNV tmvrrsal service Financial t orrespond ent. New York, March 23, — Slocks sought, lower levels today on a con* Urination of the liquidation move ment. There were several factors making fur a decline in the market. One was the report that a Chicago grain house had over-extended It self in the grain pit and was forced to sell grain and stocks. Money was advanced to 4 per cent and banks called loans following the deficit in reserves reported in the bank state ment. New low prices were made in sev eral stocks ns support was withdrawn temporarily. The sharpest declines were made in the high priced Issues. American Can losing ti points. Car and Foundry 5, American Locomotive 3. Pipe nearly 9 and Baldwin 9. The Interborough Issues remained under pressure. Wall street discussed local politics today and bets were made for the first time regarding the nomination and re-election of flavor Hylan. The stock market was weak from the start, with considerable selling in a speculative issue like Baldwin and Can. Another development which helped the bears was the reduction in Penn sylvania oil ranging from 20 to 35 cents a Iwrrel. Whatever selling de veloped in the oils was orderly. Pan-American was one of the firm issues, recovering 2 points from the day's low. Official announcement of the segregation plans will be made known on Monday. Heavy selling of corn caused a sharp decline during the day and cotton was weak for a time. Market observers say' the trouble with the stock market is due to the situation in Chicago, where people have been hurt by the decline In the grains. This has resulted in the sell ing of stocks also.
