While the current fundamental new on ! wheat was* Leuri.sh today, the real infill • ■tee back of most of the liquidating pi' pure seemed to result from the fear that the government might possibly take some step* to limit tlo- dally fluctuations ->f price*. A* the trade saw it governmental interference, direct or otherwise. Is al ways a disturbing factor, as well as de pressing. BIxport trade was slack most of the day. but the extreme break uncovered many bids, and late advices from the seaboard placed the business in. all posi lions at 1,000.00ft bushels, or more. Liver pool closed 494 42>4*4«1 lower. Liquidation in corn was extensive, and prices gave way rapidly. The trade had li that some Important lines went over board- and the df-wand on the dips wav iscoffhiglng. Reports tfrom the* country tell of a very slack demand for the >e|. low cereal, especially in the southwest. ' Mia basis locally was irregular at th in st. Oats were subjected 1.» heavy liquHut log pressure, espeeln 11> the May delivery, and prices broke badly Rye broke with wheat Liquidation wa« the main factor. Export demand for this grain was mode-ate. Eastern selling of lard sent prices down ward. Lard closed 10 0* 1 lower and ribs finished 2*,40VlOc down. Pit Note*. There has been a noth ••aide letup In ihe domestic as well as foreign demand for cash wheat, according to most report*. I Spot prices in all markets today were off in step with the futures. Visible supplies in this country are not decreasing a* rapidly as many had expected, and whib* there Is an admittedly close adjustment of supply and demand In this country anil Europe, still the- edge has been appar ently taken off the market lut the lack of fie*h export trade of any si“. There was plenty of bear news emanat-; irg from Europe which caught the mar ket in a vulnerable condition. Broom ball, the recognized authority, said that 1 he reduced oriental buying was offsetting the demand from Russia, that large ship ments from India were imminent, and that within a short time* the large ship ments from the Argentine would he ar riving on foreign shores. Other reports had it that the French government was requisitioning native w heat supplies In that country with th * idea 1n mind to cur down on the pur chases of foreign grain. All in all the foreign news indicated that there was less concern over requirements than for soma time past, al rf that economic* were apparently being attempted. The world’s available supply of wheat and flour for the week increased 4.252,00ft bushels. It totals 5 3 9.4 B 9.«»©n bushel*, against 249.4K7.OOft bushel* a year ago. The enormous world shipments that have been under way from all surplus coun tries since last duly huve apparently been veil absorbed to date bj evidence* that available supplies are less than a year ago. However, shortage theories have not worked out. at least not yet. and with constant encouragement there is a dis tinct tendency to go alow on the buying side. CHICAGO FRICKS.
