Thursday night the annual ban quet and dance of the two organiza tions will lie held at Hotel Kontenelie. OLDEST MEMBER OF ^ SYNAGOGUE DIES Levi Bernstein, oldest member of the B'nai Jacob svnogogue. Twenty fourth and Nicholas streets, died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 4130 Decatur street. Ho was a retired furniture dealer and had been a resi dent of Omaha for 35 years. He was born In Russia. Mr. Bernstein Is survived by his widow, Esther; five sons, Harry, Jake. Abe and Paul of Omaha and Ike of Tulsa, Okla., and five daughters, Mrs. B. Skurnek of Omaha, Mrs. H. Krasne of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Ben Hirsch of Hollywood, Mrs. I,. Mark and Mrs. J. Miller of Los Angeles. HeeUtnan, 2210 South Thirty-second avenue. The picture on the wall is that of Mrs. Scott's brother, Kx-Senator Nathan It. Scott of West Virginia, who died recently. New lork was a city of 218.000, Nebraska was a "desert" without a single white Inhabitant, Andrew Jackson was president of the United States, Victoria had not yet ascend ed the throne of England and people were watching with a good deal of skepticism the building of the first few miles of railroad on the birth day of Mrs. Jeanette Scott, February ■ 1, 1835. East Sunday her daughter, Mrs Edith S. Heckman, had a surprise party for her at their home,'2210 South Thirty-second avenue. The nnnogennrinn wakened from her afternoon nap to Hud more than 40 friends gathered to congratulate her and wish her many happy re turns and to present her with flow ers, candy and other gifts. Mrs. Scott was born in Washington, O. Her brother, Nathan B. Scott, United States senator from West Virginia for many years, died re cently in Washington X). C. For years he looked after his sister's comfort and his widow is continuing to take *hls interest. Mrs. Scott has three daughters. Mrs. P- C. They were found guilty by a jury January 30, of conspiracy to defraud the government in the allocation of veterans’ hospital contracts and re ceived the maximum sentence.
