Omaha "Santa” to Rail Passengers Union Pacific and City Offi cials Spread Christina! Cheer. '"AVe'll always remember Omaha slut the Union Pacific. No other city ever did anything like this. So lo'ng. Merry Christmas!" That whs the enthusiastic tenor of the last-shouted thanks Wednes day from travelers clustered on the platforms of Union Pacific trains Wednesday as they pulled out of Omaha loaded with the Christmas Sets and stock of "fixin's" for a big If 1st mas eve party amid greetings Mayor Dahlman, Queen Emma oagland of Ak-Sar-Ben and promi nent officials of the Chamber of Commerce. The civic Christmas greeting started a travelers' Christmas cele bration that will continue for 2,000 miles, ’other cities at principal stops along the Union Pacific lines are staging other greetings that will con tinue until the last Christmas train pulls Into Its destination. Gardner Is "Santa.*’ , The patron saint of the occasion was Charlie Gardner, secretary of :***•>'■« r Hen, who climbed over (he oTWrvatlon cur mils to the nnmz.e merit of ‘‘kiddie*” whose eyes were on his *every movement. “Mm can't open the packs until Christmas eve.” he''Instructed them carefully, hut here's just a little sam ple of what’s Inside. And ^rins broke forth as he dived into his sack to pul! forth a drum for a small boy, and a doll for a little girl. ‘‘There* lots of everything. Have n srood time.” was barely heard as he disappeared into the car to see that 1 lie Christmas tree was properly set up. Mayor Dahlman and Queen Emma m Ak-Sar-Ben, with the Chamber of commerce committee headed by Har ley Conant, had Omaha's official Christmas greeting cards and in less time than It takes to tell strangers from all parts of the world were strangers no longer. Even Australia and Canada were represented hy Mrs. Ada Brown of Sydney and Mrs. J. A. MasGregor of Eondon, Ont., respectively, and the travelers not only "got together” with Omaha, hut as the trains pulled out, were acquainted among themselves. The passengers' committee on the San Francisco-Overland limited which received the Chrlstmus tree and pack of "fixings'* from "Santa Claus" Gardner was headed by Victor Aaron of San Francisco, Earl C. Vogelsong of Oakland and Miss Ada Brown of Sydney. Australia. On the Eos Angeles limited the pas sengers' committee which will trim Hie tree and put on the Christmas eve party for the "kiddies' ’and grown-ups who are traveling on the holiday was headed by Bay Bell.
