' Dull Week Ahead for Fistic Followers—McTigue Matched With Harry Fay Champ Will Swap Punches in Tent at Louisville Mike Not Taking Much of a Cliancp of Losing Title in Meeting Southern Box Fighter. By KINGPOST. 1STIANA Is well crowded with leaders who are posing peacefully on the shelf— refusing to risk their titles In bouts with fight ers capable of giving them any thing that re sembles a cham pionship argu ment—while tile lesser lights of pugilism enter tain fanatics who hope to be furnished with something of a cham pionship nature before long. One of these safety first champions and the . one most likely to be relieved of IPs crown if he ever meets a worthy foe is Mike McTigue, light-heavyweight king. Mike put his padded mittens away In his safe after h« won a deci sion over Battling Siki, the ape-man from Senegal, and has refused to pull them out since, except long enough to collect a champion's price for on gaging in no-decision bouts where his title appeared to be reasonably safe. V----— McTigue is the only champion t*» appear on this week’s fistic program •nd his opponent is Harry Fay. They • re to meet in Louisville, according to schedule, but if Mike gets an idea this Fay person can fight at all, he is likely to pull another 11th hour postponement. Fay has never been heard of outside of his native city *’*nd is not apt to give McTigue more than a good workout. There are* several good fighters in M< Tig lie’s division of tho grand old game of biff, but Mike is too conver sant with their ability to entertain even a thought of meeting them. 1 nfortunately for McTigue ho is not cashing on his investment He is doing exactly what Johnny Wilson did when the Italian held the middle weight crown. He was afraid to f.i;ht anyone who had a ghost of a chance to take the title and as a result the division was stagnant for a long time and Wilson, suspended in every state where boxing was legal because ho would not meet good men, failed to make any money out of the cham pionship. Finally he met (ireb and lost.. After that Wilson was very ac tlve and lias made a lot more money since he lost the title than he did while he held it. Paul Berlcnbach, who injured a band some time ago, is going to re turn to the ring this week to me* i Tommy Bums in Detroit. Berlenbaeh will try to get another bout with Mc Tigue but it will have to be fought outside of New York and it is doubt ful if the champion will take a chance with the punch Berlenbaeh carries for an amount smaller than he could get in the boxing center of the world. f N Hawkeyes Elect Grid Captain w Next Wednesday Iowa City, lu., Nov. 29.—The Hawkeyp football eaptatn for 192.) will l>p elected at tlio annual uriil banquet which will be (jivcii lug wersen's men Wednesday, Decem ber 3.
