Heavy Buying of Futures in Corn Makes New Highs heat Acts Tired but Gets -Good Support on Weak Spots; Oats Trail Corn Upward. By CHARLES J. LEYDEN. 1 111 verbal &er\it*o Stuff lorreNpomlent. Chicago, Nov. 18.—Heavy buying of corn futures by the ea«t today sent the May and July deliveries to new highs f"i the season and led other grains out. of the rut. Wheat Acted tired most of the session due to a letup in the domes tic and foreign demand fur ihe cash article, but wus given good support on the weak spots ami recovered at the last last lo irregular levels. Wheat closed %c lower to He higher; torn wus 18n to ;!‘*c higher; oats were H•' tu lc higher, and rye ruled He up. The trade had it that cash interests •were covering short corn and that cast • in operators were taking a definite stand • >n the bul. side of this grain. The in fluences buck of the corn buying were iho strength in old crop grain, disap pointing husking returns and Indications that feeders would not have such un •*»y lime in supplying their needs. Kxport sales of wheat in all positions , were 500,000 to 600,000 bushels. About 1MM1.Q00 bushels Duluth spring wheat was sabl at H to 3 He under the May, e. i. f. Buffalo. Norway bought 400.000 to 600, bOU bushels rye. Liverpool wheat closed 1 to 2 V» pence lower. Cora Bold 3 lie up from the day's low point. Several of the biggest commis sion houses were active buyers in the last hour. Half of the corn receipts were new crop grain. Old crop arrivals sue gradually dwindling, and all markets reported prices up sharply. Feeders in .many instances expected to use more «yrn than normally this season because , the poor quality of the new grain, it being largely light weight. Oats met good commission house buy ing and trailed corn upward. Cash in terests with northwest connections bought the December and sold the May at 6 cent8 spread. Hyo acted livelier than for some time, t here was good buying in this pit, part or which was against export sales. Diovlslons were up sharply. Lard was 30 to 3*Hc higher and ribs unchanged. Fit Notes. December wheat lagged all day and at one time sold at 7%c under the May—the widest difference BO far. Several cash houses were picking up the December us It was offered and sold the May. in the Avay of shifting hedges. The relative easiness in the nearby month is the direct WfeCt of a less aggressive foreign de mand, combined with a slow milling «ra.de In this country. It was noted that one of the big commission houses In the trad cl however, was a conspicuous buyer of wheat throughout ihe session. Spot wheat fn Liverpool was easier, and the heavy shipments going that way seem to have relieved foreign apprehension somewhat The best explanation of the letup in foreign demand came from a New York exporter, who said that "for eign buyers were scared out of the mar ket by our break." In Minneapolis stocks lor three days increased 200,000 bushels:. Apparently accummulations in the north west are being cut down. Shipments of wheat from primary points were 3,177.000 bushels, or 770,000 bushels more than receipts. Clearance* from the seaports neared the million mark. It looks as though primary ar rivals will gradually diminish, and condi tions seem to be so shaping that de • ressee in the visible supply are likely to begin next week. This development Is what the bulla have been waiting for. The world's available supply of wheat and flour for the week Increased 15,738, 000 bushels. agatnHt an increase of 13. 187.000 bushels last year for the same period. The supply totals 267,141.000 bushels, against 240,878,000 bushels a year •igo. Considering the enormous movement in this country and the big shipments to Kurope. available supplies are compara tively small. It all proven that wheat 3s being consumed much faster than a year ago, despite realflvely high prices, CHICAGO "PRICES. By ITpflike Grain company, Atlantic tin. Art. I Open. I High. Steel Reaches Highest Mark Since War Period. H.v RICHARD SI'IUAM;, I ni\«rsal Service Stuff Correspondent. New York, Nov. 19.—Led by United States Steel, which went to the highest price it has attained since t lie world war period, the stock market today recorded another great advance in prices and in cidentally had another more than 2,000, OOO-Hhare day. in fa< t the biggest day since the election. Remarkable advances were made iti some of the big issues. Sears Roebuck rose 9‘> points. The remarkable change lor the better in the agricultural territory, it is ex plained, has brought such orders for Christmas goods and general supplies as to promise the best end of the year busi ness in the history of the corporation Radio Corporation of America, recently introduced to the big exchange, had a sensational advance. All the motor shares were strong. The rails went along with the proces sion in fact, came close to leading it. Buying of St. Louis & San Francisco was on a large scale. Business of the day was divided un evenly. there being a heavy volume the first hour, more moderate dealings for the next three hours and then a whale of a market in, the last hour. But it was a disappointing session to many. Not a few* men of long experi ence in Wall street have been looking for a decline, a good healthy decline. To their way of thinking it not only was due but overdue. But the market got away from them and now they are some what befogged. Foreign exchange was slightly higher. Money rules unchanged. Coffee (i5 to 70 points down. Sugar 2 to 7 points down. Grains were dull and until the last hour or so seemed inclined to sag Such strength as was shown in the morning was confined to corn and rye. in tho lust hour there was some vigorous buying ot corn and oats, which affected the other grains sympathetically and the whole market became active. Some of the grain specialists think wheat is in position now where there-is likelihood of a sharp decline in the vis. ible supply. Farmers have marketed with such freedom, they declare, that the movement in many sections is virtually over and with only a normal deinund from now on. the grain will soon become a scarce article except or the farms, of the total visible supply of 9#,000,000 bushels *>7,000,000 are at five central mar. kets Boston lies no stocks at all, and t lie tots! at seaboard and gulf would hardly meet one week's shipments at the recent rate of clearances. Tlie first official estimate of the Ar gentine wheat crop puts the yield at 19U.000.000 bushels—67,000,000 less than last year, and with one exception the lowest since 1920. Another bureau report being near the cotton market has become more re stricted. Futures were dull and moderately strong most of the day, but at no time was there much of a movement in prices, the close being at a gain of from 16 to 23 points. :-;-\ ew York Quotations V__/ New York Stock exchange quotations furnished by J.
