Pepplno Gari baldi had submitted the caae In volved In hla challenge to General Garibaldi to the permanent court of honor at Florence. The challenge issued by General Balbo last week was an outgrowth of a protest mads by Garibaldi, grand son of the Italian patriot, against the alleged attack by fascist militia upon unarmed former soldiers during the celebration of the Austrian armis tice anniversary in Rome. Garibaldi at first demanded a meet ing with Premier Mussolini and de clined to accept General Varinl, com mander of the Roman legions of the fascist militia as substitute. Early this week, however, h# 4Jd accept the challenge of General Balbo and the last word was that the sec i ends of the two men had met to make arrangements for the duel. Air Cabs by Radio and Fly Nonchalantly to Chicago or St. Louis, Promoter says N f w Yellow Commercial Planes Will Have Cabins and Bellanea Wings. The “thinking fellow” will take nil air cab and think nothing of it, and will fly from Omaha to Chicago or to St. I.ouis, or any other city, and it will all happen soon, according to Col. II. K. Hartney. The colonel, who heads a company created to build and distribute the air cabs, was in Omaha during the Pulitzer air races three years ago. He was in a crash near Honey Creek, la., and suffered a fracture and disloca tion of tlie hip which necessitated treatment in a hospital here for sev eral weeks. Another Interesting feature of the new type of air cab is that it will he equipped with the Bellanea wring, or “high lift wing,” invented by G. M, Bellanea, who pursued his airplane activities In Omaha for several years. He was associated with Victor Ik. Rods, Miles Standish and A. H. Fet ters In a concern known as the Bel lanca Aircraft corporation. Hail Taxi by Radio. “Within a few years, residents of leading cities and suburbs may hail an air taxi by radio, puff a cigar in a wind-protected cabin and com placently listen to a radio program while the taximeter ticks out 20 cents a mile,” said Colonel Hartney. He stated that the cabs are to be painted yellow and will have a cruising radius of 250 miles, will have a maximum speed of 100 miles an hour and be able to land comfortably in a four acre patch. “The model plane,” Colonel Hart ney added, “has been under experi ment for the last two and a half years, In which time it never has had an accident. “The experimental model cost $35,000, but the duplicate machines which we will begin to manufacture in Dayton, O., will cost only $3,000 each. When we apply quantity production methods we hope to lower the cost to $1,000 a plane. U. S. 10th in Aviation, “This project will bo the salvag ing of commercial air ^navigation in America. We led the World in air mail service and hold all aviation records, but so far it has done us no good. In aviation w'e rank tenth, with France first and Japan second. The use of air cabs will get the American people Into tho 'air spirit,’ and will increase the number of fly ing fields and probably induce the passage of flying laws by congress.” Colonel Hartney flew an Omaha made air sedan at Dayton, O., last fall, at the international air races Professor Bellanca, whose safety wing promises to contribute much to popular flying, maintained his labor atory at Seventeenth and Leaven worth streets while he was experi menting. He designed the Bellanca CIO plane. The Hartney corporation an nounces that it will begin operations in New York, Detroit, Baltimore, Washington, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Ann Arbor, To ledo, Buffalo, St. Louis, Kansas City, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Battle Creek, Omaha ami other points.
