I Forty-three years of bitter struggle | for existence ended for Miss Selma | Ohlfs Monday evening at the Unlver 1 slty hospital. | Miss Ohlfs, who had been a crip ple since birth, died suddenly follow ing an attack of pneumonia, a few | hours after she had been admitted to the hospital. Despite her physical disabilities, which confined her to a wheelchair. Miss Ohlfs had been self-supporting nearly all her life. For the past 10 i. years she had also been the sole sup I ’ port of her mother, Mrs. Caroline Ohlfs, 82, with whom she lived at 5607 South Twenty-fourth street. Needlework Prized. She made her livelihood In a varie ty of ways which brought to her scores of friends In all classes of . Omaha society. She was exceedingly Bw f deft at all handiwork, and her party f favors graced the tables at lnnumer • able smart functions at the Omaha club, the Omaha Athletic club and i private homes. Each year she made hundreds of Imitation cherries and CIVIL WAR VET, 76, EX-IOWAN, DIES Lewis Hague,' 76, a veteran of the civil war, died Monday at the home of his son, Lewis Hogue Jr., 2024 Vinton street. He had been ill only a short time. Mr. Hague was a member of the Q. A. R. post at Shenandoah, la. He ^ Is survived by his son and "by three brothers and three sisters. Rev. C. F. Holler will officiate at the funeral services at 4 p. m Wed nesday at Brewer's chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Park cemetery Report on Convntion. Mrs. Willis Berger and Mrs. Elmer Stone will report on the convention of Nebraska women's clubs, recently held at Grand Island, Neb., at a meeting of the South Omaha Woman's club at 2:30 p. m., Tuesday, at the South Omaha library. The musical department of the club will give a program following the business meeting. Funeral for Boy, 4. Fuenral services for Lawrence Pa nek, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Panek, 3809 South Twenty eighth street, who died at his home Monday as a result of pneumonia, were to be held at 2 Tuesday at Brewer's chapel. Burial was at Rt. Mary's cemetery. The boy Is sur vived, besides Ills parents, by three brothers and sisters. Church Luncheno. The women of the South Ride Chris tian church. Twenty-third and I streets, will serve luncheon at the church at noon Thursday. The Father and Son banquet will be held at the church at 6 p. m. Thursday. Cloverleaf Card Party. She was also a telephone secretary for several women's organizations, calling the members to remind them of their meetings and dinners. In this way she made a large circle of friends, many of whom often visited her personally. When Miss Ohlfs was taken to the University hospital Monday her moth er was taken to the home of her other daughters, Mrs. H. Funk, 1G21 Laird street, where she will probably make her home. Mrs. Ohlfs also has a son. William, who lives in Omaha. Funeral services are to be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Brewer's chap el. Rev. John Koerner of the Ger man Methodist church will officiate. Ad-Sell leaguers listened Monday night while Dr. Frederick Pierce ex plained to them how to release their latent powers. While highly tech nical, the address was dne that held the undivided attention of the mem bership for an hour and a quarter. Then a goi^lly proportion of t,hem remained "after school ’ and watched a few demonstrations of concentra tion. "I have been sleeping there for a moiltli and no one has disturbed me until now," he was ipioted as saying as they booked him at the city jail on a cliarge of vagrancy.
