Council to Begin Activities With Meeting at City Hall W ednesday Night. Nominees fop the hoard of control of the newly formed Omaha safety council were announced Wednesday ■ by Sam Houser, chairman of the com mittee of seven formed to select the b< iard. A meeting, open to the public, has been called for 8 p. m. Wednesday at the city council chamber to get the safety council under way. Commit tees will he appointed for various activities of the organization, which is designed to promote safely in indus try. schools, homes and streets. Council Bluffs, for alleged violation of a permanent liquor injunction, was dismissed in district court Tuesday afternoon. Three pints of alleged liquor, found In a wall of McGregor's home when the establishment was raided Sep tember 20, were introduced ns state evidence. Judge Ratcliff ruled that the officers that made the raid had no right to do so without a search warrant. At the conclusion of the hearing the county attorney ordered Mc Gregor committed to jail until JtOG due on the $300 fine for maintenance of a liquor nuisance, which preceded the granting of the injunction, was paid. McGregor produced the money. EAGLES TO HOLD HONOR BANQUET Judge A. B. Duncun, St. Joseph, past grand worthy president of the Eagles, will he the guest of Council Bluffs aerie No. 10-1, Thursday. There was a romance In the story— a scientist who studied butterflies and moths in the daytime and dug underground passages at night. But there was no hidden motive. Nebraska City—Roy Williamson was arrested Monday night by Sheriff Ryder in connection with recent [ burglaries here. At his home toole | alleged to have been taken from the | King drill factory several weeks ago j were found, also two shirts identified as part of the loot taken from the Wheeler-Motter factory which wae robbed several weeks ago. Williamson denied knowledge that stolen goods were at his home. > Beatrice.—The funeral of Mrs. Clara Holroyd. 58, long a resident of tile Pii krell 'iclnity. Who died at St. Joseph last week, was held at the Brethren church at Piikrell and burial was in the Brethren cemetery near that place. Mrs. Holroyd is sur vived by four children. Columbus.—Appeal to district court from a derision of probate court allowing Miss Clara. Kiuntke of Cres ton her claim of $4,680 against the estate of her brother, Adolph Kiuntke. for services as his housekeeper was dismissed. The controversy was set tled out of court, Miss Kiuntke agree ing to accept $3,500. The remainder goes to her mother ss the only heir at law, who contested the claim of her daughter. Joint Indictments to Be Asked in Slaying Mount Vernon, 111., Oct, 7.—de claring the man and the woman are equally guilty under tiie law, State’s Attorney Frank U. Thompson an nounced he would ask the county grand Jury when It convenes here next Monday to return two joint mur der Indictments against Lawrence M. Walter, superintendent of Tabitha, urged that financial siftiport be given the project in his talk before the Kvnngelicnl Luthern synod which is in session at St. Mark church. Other speakers Wednesday morn ing were Itev. Frank Heilman, secre tary of the Foreign Mission board at Chicago: Paul List of the United Lutheran Publishing house at Phila delphia, and Dr. C. B. Lewis of Chi cago, Sunday school superintendents. M illie missionary work of the Luth eran church has in the past been con centrated in India and Africa, Key. Mr. Heilman declared that China is now a real challenge for tile church, and asked for the names of young people who are prospective mission aries. FERGUSON CASE TO HIGH COURT By Associated Tress. Austin, Tex., Oct. 8.—The Fergu son injunction case will he certified to the state supreme court for decision by the third court of civil appeals without hearing arguments. This move, announced today, will expedite a decision on the main ques tion of whether women are legally eligible to hold office in Texas and on the other less Important questions In volved In the suit brought by Charles M. Dickson of San Antonio to prevent Mrs. Miriam A. Ferguson's name from going on the November ballot as the democratic nominee for governor. The supreme court probably will re ceive the certified questions today or tomorrow, and counsel for Mrs. Fer guson expect to ask at once that the hearing be advanced on the docket so arguments may be made at the ear liest possible day.
