By Kll IIAKII Si'll I.AMI I iihersal Service Financial Editor. New York, Oct. I —Wall street persons who were worrying about the political | situation were calmed if not cheered by Judge Cary's short statement. As a eon !sequence there was a different market today. With car loadings near the larg est on record the rails furnished the basis for sonn good buying and a shat*, advance in American Can stimulated various o. the. other industrials. The move In Can was merely a run ^n of speculators, who sob I* heavily when the dividend was not Increased. It looked like a regular bull market until after the noon hour. Then it eased off gradually. Despite t lie good reports on car loadings and the fine showing made in reducing costs of operation the rails showed less strength than tho in d ust rials. The oils did fairly well, disregarding some more stories of price cutting and high produc tion. The fuel oil and lubricant concerns are doing weii, tiie trouble in the industry being almost/ wholly in the gasoline group. The rubbers were In high favor. Transactions aggregated 932,600 shares. Halls advanced an average one-tenth of a point, and industrials advanced an average nine-tenths of a point. Foreign exchange slightly higher. .Money rates unchanged. Coffee up 10 to IS points. Sugar down 5 to 6 points. Cotton was subjected to varying ln fluences. The crop estimators were not kind. Prices at the close were from 17 to 32 points up for the day. Variety was furnished tn the grain markets by the unusual activity In and str* ngth of oats. Kxport buying of oats was In evidence nil day. Wheat had a dull day. The action of Liverpool was not encouraging. This gave cou-rage to the bears and they had rather the better of the contest, the close being at from unchanged to '*c down. Foreign buying was moderate Corn held steady throughout the session without displaying as much activity as has been its < ustom, and closed Kr to 1 V*c higher. Outs were up 2%o to 2%e. and rye. of which Duluth wag a steady buyer It) Chicago, kept making new high records for tin- yiar, the close being at an ad vance of $%c to 2%c. r x New York Quotations | X_ J New York Stock Kxchange quotations furnished by .1. 8.
