Price of Wheat Steady; European Reports Bullish News of Bad Weather Sup plies Resistance to Bears* Attacks; Heavy Receipts , , Force Oats Down. By CHARIdKS 4. LEYDEN, I'nitersal Service Staff Correwpondent. •"hlcago, Sept. R.—Foreign new* today furnlahcd th*> counteracting Influence to A bearish lot of statistfce, and wheat prices held well moat of the day, and cloaed with a final rally to about the beat flgurea of the day. Bad weather In Europe, with higher cables, and late strength at Winnipeg furnished the In centive for considerable short covering. The corn market was a chpppy affair, j hut became oversold around mid-day and j 'allied quickly over lc from the low: Feint, but finished with an irregular I range. Profit taking in rye took the| edge off that market, and heavv receipts, of oats proved too much for the bulls in! that grain. Wheat closed to %o higher corn vas J4c lower to He higher, oat* were \c to %o lower, while rye waa V6c to %o down. Liverpool came unexpectedly strong and finished the day *e to lc higher for -wheat. The strength waa due apparently to the advance at Buenca Alree indicat ing ralna had been Insufficient In Audi ting .and to the continued unfavorable weather conditions in Great Britain France and Germany. Continental grain prices are hardening and Germany waa reported to have raised the export duty on graina Com Jells Fveely. Prospects for better weather oauaed free selling of corn early, but the crowd became too enthusiastic on tha telling aide and were forced to cover later. Buying whs credited particularly to a local bull operator. General ttade waa alow with pit trade largaly of a professional char acter. An Increase of 7.BI4.0®© bushels bi the visible supply with primary receipt* of 4,149.00© bushels against 1.868,000 bushels a year ago. proved too much for the oale bulla and prices declined sharply, losing 1* compared to wheat and com Ship ping business was of fair volume. While the foreign newe was bullish on rye, there was a good deal of profit tak ing at times, although the market ran Into good support on the eet.backe. Provisions showed considerable strength early, but the grains were shaded mi ferially In the late trade. Lard finished 2%e lower to 7 Sc higher, ribs cloeed 74a higher. Fit Note*. Commission house buying today 1ndl rated accumulation of wheat on the dips, with no effort, made, however, to advance prices unduly. Spring wheat marketings are expected to be heavy owing to finan cial conditions which necessitate farmers taking advantage of the present good prices. Rnssla Facing Famine. Winnipeg appeared to have an Inkling / of a stronger foreign situation and there was active buying of wheat futures there today. However, some of the sup port in the northern market, was dus to the fart that crop reports are Indicating a decidedly uneven yield In the prairie provinces, with more frost damage than expected. However, in southern Manitoba yields are larger and quality better than expected. An increase of 4,159,00® bushels In our domestic visible supply did not prove much of a shock to tne holders of wheat, who bought more freely after this was posted tnan before. Primary receipts were 4,639,0©© bushels, agatnat 2,906,000 bushels a year ago World shipments were 12,401,000 bush els. Shipping sales here were 12,401,000 bushels, mostly for export, and the sea, board reported sales of 800,000 bushels wheat. Charters tor ocean vessels to carry grain to Europe have been par ticularly heavy the last fortnight, estab lishing a record for the Atlantic sea board. Kansas City reported wheat pil ing up there rapidly, with elevator room nearly filled up. Reports received via Berlin, quoting a high German diplomat, said that Russia, was facing the worst famine eondfnon in Its history. CHICAGO CASH PRICES. By TTpdIk* Grain gamptny, Atlantle mil.
