* Child Seriously Hurt in Crash —.. Probably Fatally Injured When Cars Collide on Manawa Road. r(. j A head on collision between a large touring car and a truck on the Lake Manawa road, Council Bluffs, Friday night may coet the life of Josephine N'eidermeyer, 10, daughter of Mr. and -Mr*. A. H. Ntedermever, 111 Platner street, Council Bluffs. The child lies In Jennie Edmundson hospital with a crushed chest and deep cuts about the throat. Her con dition is critical. With her parents the girl was re turning to Council Bluffs. Just south of Twenty-ninth avenue on the Lake Manawa road her father awung out and crashed head-on Into the truck, according to its driver, Harry Dugan, 2114 South Eighth street. Council Bluffs. Dugan was released under $1,000 bond. According to Dugan, three touring cars were racing toward Council Bluffs on the Lake Manawa road as he drove toward the lake. Apparently falling to see Dugan's truck, Neider mej-er, driving one of the three on coming machines, swerved out to pass the other two, and the crash resulted. Neither Dugan nor Mr. and Mrs. N'eidermeyer were seriously injured in the accident, although both cars ft were practically demolished. PROF. STOHLMANN TO BE INSTALLED Prof. George C. Stohlrnann. former ly principal of the Lutheran school at Fremont, will be formally installed as teacher of the upper grades and principal of the Cross Lutheran school, Twentieth and Elm streets, Sunday. Rev. Titus Lang, pastor, will offi ciate in the morning service at 10. A reception will be given In honor of Prof. Stohlrnann and his family in the assembly hall of the church at 7:30. The Cross Lutheran school, In w hich all eight grades are taught and religious instruction is daily given, will open September 2. The teachers are Prof. George C. Stohlrnann and Miss M. Kellermann. Prof. Stohlrnann Is also president of the Nebraska dis trict of the Walther league and will preside at the district convention at Norfolk August 18 and 17. INTERALLIED DEBT PARLEY PLANNED By Associated Fret*. London, Aug. 9.—A conference on tlie question of interallied debts will be held In the near future. It has gG been definitely decided. Premier Herriot af France announced today just before he left for Paris for a conference with his cabinet on the work of the international confer ence. The French delegatee had been working persistently to bring about such an Interallied debt discussion since the present conference opened. It is understood that it has not yet . been decided whether the new con f,-pence will be held in Pnr.s or Lon ; don. It was empaslzed, however, , at the l -.1 * States representative I -w re not parties ti the decision to hold the debt parleys. DAVIS ARRIVES IN HOME TOWN CUu-taburg, \V. Va., Aiiz. 9.—Jilin W. The Omaha Poultry Association will hold Its annual picnic and field day Sunday at the Keellne White Leghorn farm, located near Council Bluffs. The Keellne Poultry farm, Is considered by poultry breeders to be one of the largest and most modern poultry plants In the United States. Picnic for Engineers. Members of the Knglneers’ club of Omaha will hold a picnic at the Flor • nee pumping station grounds this afternoon. It Is expected that. 200 persons will lie present. The new county tax levy will be 3.3 mills, the levy approved last year by the county board. The county commissioners met Sat urday morning as an equalization board and approved the Douglas county tax levy as follows: County, 3.3 mills; state, 1.8; city, 0.8; school district, 12. This makes a total of 26.9 mills, compared with 26.6 last year. The school district Is certified to half a mill more than the previous levy, and the state levy is .2 of 1 mill less, the net increase being .3 of 1 mill. The increase in valuation figures Is so slight that the Increase in tax yield will be al most negligible. Taxes Scaled" Down. Although the total amount to he raised for taxation purposes will he about the same, there wilt be a great er spread, due to building operations. In many instances property owners will pay less taxes on account of a scaling down of valuations by County Assessor H. (i. Counsrnan.
