New York, July 11.—Everything went up today, stocks, cotton, all grains, pork, sugar, coffee, everything. Having ligateued Its cargo somewhat by tne clearing out to which it was sub jected Thursday, the slock market re sumed its advance today. U. S. Meet and some other favorite issues hud little to do and did it, but Consolidated Gas, American Locomotive, American Cun, i hesapeake <St Ohio, Baldwin, Erie, Davi son Cnemicai and a few others had plenty uf action. Consolidated Gas went to a new high uf i 1 Vs and Chesapeake & Uhlo also scored a new high, reacning sbVi. Davison Chemical, true to the prophecies uf those wiio control it, maraetwise, went to bbVa—a rise of 3 Vs points—and held nearly all of it. American Woolen again was off and so were Market Street Hallway issues ana United Railway Investment. Atlantic Ke nning went to 87, the lowest it has Known since the 800 per cent stock dividend some years ago. Better reports came as to the motors. Studebaker w'us in fair demand and improved its posi tion. American Can and Baldwin, which have a habit of traveling together, moved true to form, both making good gains. Transactions aggregated 8U2.2U0 shares. Kails made an average gain of V* point, and industrials approximately •>* of u point. Foreign exchange was quiet, sterling and lire up a little* and French francs down a little. Call money 2 per cent. Cotton was active throughout the day. The close was at about the highest of the day, July up 42 points, and new crop months 60 to 2. l.arbd again had as sharp advance in sympathy with corn. Coffee got back to approximately nor mal. Sugar showed a little vigor and made an advance of 8 points In the July and September contracts, and 13c to 14c in the December and March. Omaha Produce v __ ■ ...J Omaha, July 11. BUTTER. New York Bonds V-----' New York. Julv 11.—Bond prices drifted irregularly lower in today’s dull trading Early steadiness gave way to reactionary tendencies, which resulted in scattering one to two-point losae* throughout the for eign. railroad and Industrial lists. Uneasiness over the reported spread of the Sao Paulo revolution caused further heavy selling of Brazilian bonds. Two point declines were registered by both Brazil 7%s and Sao Paulo 8s. with Hio Do Janeiro issues receding fracationally. Expectation that the consummation of pending railroad mergers would be de ferred until after election was held partly responsible for the lagging Interest In railroad securities Most of the issues which would be afrected by consolidation, such as the International Great Northern liens, moved slightly lower. • Independent strength, howover. was noted in several industrial mortgage*. WUson Convertible 6s bounded up 3% points, recovering from a recent wave of profit-taking. Progress reported in the readjustment of the Wick wlrp-Spencer Steel corporation's finances contributed a gain of 2% points in the companyy s bonds. New York. July II.—Following are to day's high, low and closing prices of bonds on the New York Stock exchange and the total sales of each bond: (United States bonds in dollars and thirty-sec onds of dollars ) Inlted Stutes Bonds. J. S. Bache & Co. Review New York. July 11.—There Is very little In the business situation viewed from the standpoint of what Is actually happening to warrant optimism. Employment has decreased strikingly, production lias fallen off 20 per cent since February, the output of pig iron has declined drasti-alVy m four months, automobile production nearly as much, and consumption in • otton and wool has declined in large percentage Notwithstanding all these unfavorable factora and. In fact while they have be* n most actively developing the stock mar ket has been more confidently advancing It turned decisively for the better a ; month ago when all Indications for trad were distinctly unfavorable. This is not a new development In the history of busi ness and stock market relations It has be*n the case before, but In such cases wen developed prosperl'y followed. Th i brings attention to the Interesting fact that a stock market rise did not precede the lecovery of trade from the breakdown of 19 20 nor was It the case v-hen trade was recovering quickly in 11*3. In both these Instance* the stock market did not advance until long after business had be come extremely active This would seem to weaken the claim for barometeric fore casting on the part of the stork market The public may, 1n our opinion, safely continue to pursue the poll, y of making commitments only in those securities, which by their dividend records and sound management of the corporations is suing them, have proved their permanent desirability. It should he noted, however, that even In this field the tendency should not be all in the direction of one class of se curities. Public utilities, for Instance, have been so highly commended that there has been a tendency to overdue In vestment In this division, with the result that prices for these hava risen per ha; s above the relative value J 3 BACHE CO.
