Leniency of the H. O. Wolf com pany in waiving the payment of overdue rent in an effort to keep go ing the florist shop at 210 South Serenteenth street, has brought ques tions for solution that would have tested even Solomon. The florist shop was opened by C. W. Welsh, who for a time was suc cessful. His health failed, he fell be hind several months In his rent. Fi nally, because of his Illness, he d« cided to give up and the business was turned over to L. Ackermann. Wolf forgave the payment of $800 of overdue rent and Ackermann started with enthusiasm. The new management was also to make easy arrangements with Welsh's general creditors but this took time and he too fell behind in his rent. Again, Wolf drew' a line under the rent account and all things seemed rosy for Ackermann. But then came a demand that could not he postponed. Walsh had failed to pay his 1922-23 taxes. The sheriff moved in. took possession of the flor ist shop and levied on the stork and fixtures to guarantee payment of $73.05 unpaid taxes. Wolf has waived $1,250 In rent, covering the major portion of a year. The sheriff holds the fixtures, the stock and the store. Looks as though Wolf will have to pay the taxes If he ^ls to salvage anything out of his good Amarltanism. Not only the beautiful court yard Itself but the entire building will be open to the public. The open ing has been planned to take the form of an enormous reception. Chester A. Cook and Raymond C. Cook, Chicago capitalists who own the structure, will be predent and, with C. C. George, whose company manages the building, will form the reception committee. The building, begun last yehr, has but recently been completed. It rep resents an investment of approxi mately $1,900,000. The ground upon which the building stands is ap praised at $1,000,000 and the struc ture itself cost $900,000. The struc ture stands at Sixteenth and Howard streets. In itself the building Is something of which Omaha might well be proud. It is designed to fill a long felt need for studio room as well as a need for more office space. Two wings pro vide the space for the two types of wants. The north wing is filled with Resident Makii Harry B. Klannngan of Hart Flan nagan company. New York, la spend ing several days In Omaha as guest of Haas Brothers. Klannagan is making a survey of business conditions in 100 stores whom the Hart-Flannagan company repre sent as resident buyers in the east. Flannagan Is optimistic of business in Omaha and vicinity, stating that In comparison with the west cosst Omaha has every reason to feel elated over the prospects. _____ Combs’ 36th Anniversary Sale Wonderful Discounts Diamonds and Watches 20% 25% on Jewelry, Sterling Silver and Clocks 33V3% on Glass, China, Leather and Plated Silver Odds and Ends, 50% OMAHA’S ANNUAL THRILLER 303 South 16th St., New Location. The only Italian court yard to be constructed as part of an office building in the United States lies here. A long cloister bounds two sides of the court, the east wall of the build ling bounds a third pide and the street entrance is on the fourth side. Flag walks surround the fountain and the minature stream which flows down the center. Trees and shrubs have been planted to add the touch supreme to the "downtown garden.” Because of the novelty of the struc ture it is believed that hundreds of travelers will stop In Omaha just to see what the place Is like. The first of these will come Friday when a delegation of building owners and managers is to stop on their way to Colorado Springs for their annual convention. - The reception is open to anyone who cares to attend. The building Is to open from 10 Monday morning un til ]0 that night. Golden Wedding. Special Dispatch fa The Omaha Bee.
